I few weeks back I came to this web site looking for help in turning the director's commentaries on many of my favorite DVD's into mp3 files that I could listen to on my iPod.

My first attempt was with Fellowship of the Ring (the extended version).
I ripped the discs to my hard drive using DVD Shrink. I then processed those files using DVD2AVI. Finally I converted the AVI files using Be Sweet and everything worked great.

This process was also successful for the first disc of The Two Towers (extended edition). But because the processing time for DVD2AVI was so long (it was averaging about 13 hours) - and the fact that I didn't actually need AVI files, I decided to try AC3 Decoder, on Disc 2.

But when I tried to play back the mp3 files, they were unlistenable. The audio was broken up, like when you are scanning in fast-forward. So I decided to just go back to the longer process of using DVD2AVI. But when I opened the VOB files in DVD2AVI and hit F5 to preview it, the video played back at what seemed like double speed. Thinking that the data files were corrupted, I re-ripped the disk - first with DVD Shrink, then with DVD Decrypter - with the same results.

I tried playing the VOB files in WinDVD and they play fine.
But when I load them up in DVD2AVI they play back at double speed.

Does anyone know why this is happening? I have not tried to run DVD2AVI because it seemed like a waste of 14 hours. The previous three DVD's I converted to mp3 did not have this problem.

I've read through the FAQ's and haven't found any mention of this problem. I'm really stumped. Can someone help?

My computer is a Dell running a Pentium 4 at 2.4GHz, with 768 MB of RAM, with over 58 GB of free hard drive space.

Thanks,
Mike

DVD2AVI isn't really a player. The F5 mode processes as fast as your PC will allow - it does display the video, but the mode is really intended to let you monitor what's going on in the stats window. The display rate is often twice (or more than twice) the native framerate. This is expected behavior in DVD2AVI.

However, taking 13 hours to process the VOBs is a little odd. What exactly are you doing? Even with audio extraction, I wouldn't expect it to take more than ½ hour.

Also, if extracting the audio is the only thing you want to do, I might recommend stream processing in DVDDecrypter. That should give you an AC3 in 15-to-20 minutes.

Hi, and welcome to the forum-

You should have come here for help a long time ago. I couldn't help but chuckle when reading of your trials and tribulations. Don't Save AVI in DVD2AVI. Just Save Project. You'll get your audio in 10 minutes max.

But as Kedirekin says, if all you want is the audio, it'll be faster and more efficient for you to get it from DVD Decrypter. Since a picture is worth a thousand words, here's Doom9's DVD Decrypter Guide (http://www.doom9.org/dvddec.htm). And if you don't yet have it, here's DVD Decrypter. (http://www.doom9.org/Soft21/Rippers/SetupDVDDecrypter_3.2.2.0.exe)

You'll probably want to set it for IFO Mode.
