OK, so i've been happily using dvd-rb for a while now. Has worked well pretty much every time. But all of a sudden i'm getting this strange problem. During the CCE phase after however long, the program just stops working. Disk space is fine... and the program still shows as running. The folder D2VAVS is created ok. i'm using latest RB (0.48) and CCE SP 2.66 with eclcce. Any one know whats going on? thanks!
edit: forgot to add- using 1-click. And the only thing that changed was my power supply blew up, and i had to put a new one in..

I would suggest that you test your RAM.

don't think it's the ram.. pc is fine other that thr rb problem. surely games and what not would suffer too. But just in case, can you suggest a utility to test ram?

one thing i know about encoding.. it tests your ram more than any thing else (with maybe a few exceptions)...
prime 95 is a popular tester for overclockers... sorta similates what encoders have to do.. and thats do alot of math..

Do you know what the bitrate is of the .m2v that cce is hanging on? I have had problems with cce hanging when the bitrate was low...say below 900.
What movie?
NTSC or PAL?
Region?

i'm using a gig of corsair xms ram, pc2700 so its good stuff. films were all pal region 2...didnt check the bitrate when it hung, but it seems kinda random. I'll check next time i run dvd-rb.

Troubleshooting 101. Does it work for other movies? Sometimes CCE will hang on video it doesn't like.

yes, its worked fine on all films... but the last 2 haven't, reckon is just bad luck? i spose the best test would be to see whether it hangs in the same place.
I use this exe file to test RAM.
http://oca.microsoft.com/en/windiag.asp
It will create a floppy/CD and boot from it. It will test the RAM in DOS.

I just want to clarify that it is CCE that stops, not DVD-RB, right?

The PSU breaking is never a good thing. You're lucky that it didnt take the innards of your pc with it :(
Cant think of tips for your problem other than perhaps scanning the HD for bad sectors (that can cause a program to read a sector endlessly). They sometimes appear if you bounce the PC around while changing parts like a PSU.

sorry, yeah its cce thats doing the stopping...
edit: yeah i was crapping it when the psu went... i was diving in there to rescue my 9800 xt... it also blew the fuses in 4 of the cables plugged into the same multi socket.. I'll do some scan disks... good idea.

Has anybody a clue about this?
I have exactly the same symptomes. CCE (and RB) worked like a charm for a while and a couple of movies, but all of a sudden it just stops dead during the .vaf-creation-pass of a certain segment and has to be shut down via taskmanager. It happend on two titles shortly, Animatrix and Anger Management, both PAL reg 2.
In both cases it is alwas exactly the same moment it hangs on. In Animatrix it was in a high-bitrate-situation (flashing picture) of a special. In Anger Management it is also in a special with some 1300 kbits/s ABR. I tried
cutting down MaxBitrate in the ecl for the related segment
re-installing CCE SP (2.66)
changing the ecl to CBR (with the RB-calculated br) for the related segment
checked CPU temp
I didn't test my mem yet, but anyway I don't believe it is a hardware issue (Pentium 2.4, 512 MB ram), because it happens exactly on the same spot.
I'm quite lost on this, because besides re-installing Avisynth I don't really know what to do next. Oh yes, and I do regularly scan my HD. By the way, I'm feeding RB via mounted image. could this be related? But I didn't update anything of my stuff lately, besides RB, and this phenomenon appeared all of a sudden :(
Any help is appreciated...

seems to be difficult... :(
I will post also in the CCE forum, but I thought there has to be also some CCE knowledge gathered here, and people will know the special circumstances of dvd-rb...
Strange enough, I experiance some CCE problems in the past few weeks, were there never was a problem before. I had
1. the above described "CCE hangs at a certain spot"-error
2. the "CCE init() failed" (or something like this)-error
3. the "file size stupid*strange not supported"-error
all with CCE SP 2.66; and in case (3) the related avs played fine, so no avs error...
In case 2 I was able to resume the encode process by setting back encode_progress in rebuilder.inf, and rebuild worked well, but with 1 and 3 a have absolutely no clue what to do... :(
do I really have to reinstall xp or something like this  ?
or could it be related with windows-SP 2?
