Read the FAQ/stickys, but can't find the simple question.. is there a way to hint to divx the minimum bitrate during a 2-pass encoding using Gknot all latest versions?

I notice that dark parts of a movie get compressed agressively.. and I fix it with overlay in the player, but I'm looking for a better way to encode the file using divx (not xvid at the moment)..

I saw the reference to: http://forum.doom9.org/showthread.php?s=&threadid=57948 or Autogain in avisynth script, but no success stories yet...

I rather have a bitrate control rather than on/off switch..

In first-pass second-pass settings I see "Encoding bitrate" but is that the average ? max? min? just give me the minimum and I'll be happy ;-)

That value is the average. On the nth pass GUI, you'll also see Bitrate Modulation. This can be used to adjust bitrate usage by scene. For details on the parameter, see http://www.divx.com/support/guides/DivXGuide51.pdf pages 40 and 41. In addition one can adjust modulation in EKG, see http://www.divx.com/support/divx/guide.php#ekg or page 106 in the guide.
