I can't get any dvd to play in my NEC ND2500A using Power DVD 5! I am able to write discs and my LG combo drive (in the same machine) plays the discs ok. The discs also play on my standalone Philips dvd player. I have flashed the ND2500 to firmware 1.07 with RPC1 but this hasn't made a difference. It's hopefully something simple but, Any Ideas??

System spec: Gigabyte GA-7VA motherboard, Athlon 2600XP, 512Mb RAM, MX440 64Mb AGP8 video, C:\Seagate Barracuda 80GB, D:\Maxtor 17GB, E:\NEC ND-2500A, F:\LG Combo drive (can't remember the model number)

can you acces the disk via explorer or any other program?
what about being able to decrypt it with dvddecrypter (or alike)?

Sorry it's taken until now to respond. I posted whilst at work.

I can see the 2 folders when I open a disk through My Computer and then all the .vob, etc files when I open the video_ts folder.

I should explain my problem better. Power DVD starts to play the disks but only plays 4 secs then pauses plays another seconds and then stops and throws me back to the Power DVD logo screen. I haven't tried to decrypt using this drive as I've always used the LG combo in the past.

The combo drive is a GCC-4480B which I haven't flashed to RPC1.

have you tried any other dvdplayer like WinDVD (or even WMP - for testing purposes only of course)?

Was just downloading WinDVD Platinum Trial version when I got your message.

I've only tried 1 disk but it's almost the same thing except WinDVD freezes completely with the ND2500 but plays ok with the LG combo.

I've tried about 4 or 5 discs both originals and backups with Power DVD 5

Have now flashed the drive with the standard v1.07 firmware and it now plays dvds. I was about to send the drive back for replacement and thought I better have the correct firmware on it! :-}

I'd be interested if anyone else with a ND-2500A has had similar problems.

Thanks

so the firmware you had on the drive when you bought it wasn't 1.07?!

Use WinDVD Platinum instead of PowerDVD, it's the best dvd player in the world. Even in [edited for rule 6 violation - no warez] you can find "FREE" WinDVD Platinum 5.3.5.22 for downloading.

charlotte: If you had read the thread you would have known that Dunk already tried WinDVD Platinum and it acted even worse than PowerDVD.

Anyway, apart from the fact that honestly i do not believe there is a DVD player that is "best" in every aspect of utilization, it is forbidden to link to warez from this forum!!

cheers

No. The firmware was v1.06 when I bought the drive which I flashed to v1.06 with the rpc1 removed. I then found that v1.07 with riplock and rpc1 removed was available and flashed the firmware to that. I have now flashed it to the standard v1.07.

I don't know if it worked with the v1.06/rpc1 removed as I never tried it!
