Stupid Question #1: What does Mpeg2Source Do?

I tried looking at other posts to make some determination of what mpeg2source selection does in the AviSynth settings on RB 0.47+, but being a newbie to video I can't really make sense of it. Can someone please tell me what it does or when to use it? (hopefully in terms I can understand :)

Are you refering to this option:

Options->AVS Options->Advanced Options->MPEG2Source("source",idct=7)

All encoder methods (QuEnc, CCE) use AVS and the MPEG2Source command. This options only adds the "idct=7" to the command. See this thread (http://forum.doom9.org/showthread.php?s=&threadid=76084) for more info on what that does.
