Hi,

I need a black dvd-rom drive for general use and some dvd-ripping. At newegg they have:

167T
Lite-On 16X DVD-ROM, Model SOHD-167T Black, OEM (http://www.newegg.com/app/ViewProductDesc.asp?description=27-131-118&depa=0)

and

HD166
Lite-On Black 16X DVD-ROM Drive, Model XJ-HD166, OEM (http://www.newegg.com/app/ViewProductDesc.asp?description=27-131-603&depa=0)

Which one would you renommens (and why) ?

Thanks!

PS Just saw that the 167T comes with PowerDVD 5.0 while the HD166 with 4.0 so I guess the 167T is newer - but is it better?

I doubt anybody really knows!

They dont release new versions of drives for fun so I guess something got changed, and/or added.

I think the 167 might be made by LiteOn again instead of the JLMS (partner?) company. I say this because it follows the naming scheme of the 812 now - starting with SOHD or whatever it is.

The only information I could find was that the 167T is quite new - anounced February or something. So I guess I will go with that.

Liteon 166s because
the dangerous brothers have released a speed hacked firmware
that allows you to read dvdr at 6x - 14x instead of the usual
4x - 9x. Making it perfect for on the fly 8x copying.
(it's also region free)
