Hi!

HelDecPack is the name of a codec pack I've created. I know there are a bunch of codec packs already, but this one contains everything (and not more) that I and maybe others need :) Download and a list of stuff included can be found here (http://heldecpack.helten.dk).

I hope that someone will help me test HelDecPack and come up with suggestions for making it better (maybe a change of name) :p

Hope this is the right forum for stuff like this....otherwise just move it :)

BTW I don't think it will work on win9x or winME...

I've looked in to it and apparently OggDS 0.9.9.6 is based on 0.9.9.3 sources (http://forum.doom9.org/showthread.php?threadid=61578). So actually I did a "downdate" instead of an update :scared:

I will update OggDS (or is it downdate :p) to 0.9.9.5 again and reintroduce CoreVorbis.

BTW does anybody know how to access CoreVorbis control panel? Like rundll32.exe vsfilter.dll, DirectVobSub for accessing VSFilter control panel...

Why don't you simply replace OggDS with Gabest's OggSplitter.It works better than OggDS and connects perfectly with corevorbis audio decoder.It doesn't include a directshow ogm multiplexer and a directshow ogg vorbis decoder,but who really cares.I don't think many people are using graphedit for ogm muxing and ogg vorbis audio encoding.Also if you include Gabest's OggSplitter the pack will be also smaller.

Hmmm that sounds like a good idea :-)

But I haven't really heard about gabest making a standalone ogg splitter before? Did someone extract it from the MPC sources? :confused:

I will check it out when I get back from work and include it instead of OggDS if it works ok...I don't like the size of OggDS eighter :p

It's better than OggDS for sure.I'm using it for more than a month and finally I have fast ogm seeking and no more crashes in explorer when I select an ogm file.Gabest always creates great directshow filters.

There are also some other interesting filters:

Thats great! I didn't know about those filters either :)

I will add the MPEG2 splitter and decoder (XP, 2k, 2003 only) in the next version of HelDecPack...tomorrow I guess :p

Thank you for your job. I really think it is the most interesting pack for those who simply want to watch videos.
Moreover the last option "detection of potentially conflicting codecs" is quite nice !

Maybe I missed something (that's quite sure!)but I don't understand why there is Real Media Splitter in HelDecPack.
What about the filter ?
I still think "real alternative" and "quicktime alternative" are 2 great solutions and that there is no need to include this in HelDecPack.
Is there an explanation ?

But in fact my question is where is the filter ? Does ffdshow take care about that ? :confused:

For those alternatives :
I'm actualy using Mozilla Firefox and if I want to read real media and qicktime contents I need those softs in order I can dispose dll's.
And I wonder if the splitter and the filter are sufficient.

The only reason I've included RealMediaSplitter is because of a request a long time ago. If you take a look at my website (http://heldecpack.helten.dk) you will see that I might remove RealMediaSplitter along with some other stuff sometime in the future. Sorry for the late reply :cool:

Well, about the modifications I would say :
- ok for the realmedia splitter (of course it is not a surprise!)
- ok for some non-core components of ffdshow (audio for example, I don't know what makeavis is, but not ok for mpeg-2..can you convince me ?)
- quite ok for coreAAc , actually I don't know if I've already used it
- I would add Gspot
- avisplitter is it really needed ? Does ffdshow not care about that ?

I'm only thinking about removing the MPEG2 part of ffdshow (which is disabled by default) and not the standalone MPEG2 decoder of HelDecPack.

I don't think I'll remove GSpot or AviSplitter though...

- real splitter
- non-core components of ffdshow (audio and mpeg-2)

ffdshow distribution contains makeAVIS utility to produce "fake" AVI files from Avisynth scripts to use them in application which don't support avs files directly.

Don't worry about makeAVIS :) It's not even selected by default in the ffdshow installer. I shouldn't have included it in the first place...

And yes ffdshow is capable of encoding, but I don't think I can remove the feature completely, as I don't recompile ffdshow but only exclude certain files from HelDecPack.

many thx for your efforts ! anyway, the new pack seems to be a bit redundant. if u install ffdshow041003 (full) u've got support for ac3 and aac, no need for other codecs. the same is for mpeg1 and mpeg2. so, in general, ffdshow supports all popular a/v formats. quality a/o personal preferences are to be considered, of course.
what all i (we?) need is a set of splitters. if mpc is taken as the player, most of them are built in. so, what i really miss is a good mp4 splitter.

ok, i know, it's pretty hard to decide where to draw the borders. your pack is really essential (in all meaning :-) thx for it !
