How exactly do you play an MP4 on a Kiss player?

EDIT continued from >>> here (http://forum.doom9.org/showthread.php?s=&threadid=75631) <<<

are there any players at all that play something different from AVI, only thing I knew was rumors about WMV

at they moment you dont, as current mpeg-4 standalone players dont support the .mp4 container ;)

but kiss representatives already announced that their upcoming new mpeg-4 player series, using the new sigmadesigns chip, will support it (someone else meant that the firmware from sigma supports it natively so any player based on the chip should handle it)

the support will include subtitles and chapters as set atm by nero recode2 and also lc-aac (stereo and multichannel) decoding

@bond

did they say something about WMV as well or does the chip support WMV, I assume the chip supports it, right?

yes it will support wmv...
still does anyone need wmv? no!
is wmv the topic of this thread? no! ;)

I think it's also worth pointing out that any current Kiss player incorporating Sigma's EM84xx chipset (http://www.sigmadesigns.com/products/em8400series.htm) is (in theory) also able to decode Mpeg4/AAC in MP4... You never know you might have this chipset instead of the basic EM85xx (http://www.sigmadesigns.com/products/em8500series.htm) which does not have AAC audio or MP4 container support.

personally I don't know yet if I'm gonna need WMV, it's just like Microsoft I gotta listen to the "customers" and support all formats in the tools I'm working on. Better hardware support for a format means automatically better popularity and higher priority in the tools I'm working on. Otherwise I wouldn't bother either...

Mh... i can't remember having started that thread. Someone must have split it from the original mp4 propaganda thread and must have forgotten to insert a link to the original thread in my posting...

Whoever it was, he didn't like my absolutely valid question how to play MP4 on a SAP as an answer to the question why someone would want to mux mp4 to AVI ...

Some people obviously rather want to throw all existing SAPs away than admitting that AVI is still in use.

Alex,

Please remind me what an SAP is?

Standalone Player :p

Maybe the MP4 container was not implemented because of 'uncertain' AAC audio licensing issues. And maybe this was why DivX5.0.2 was the last version of their codec to include Mp3 (and not AAC) audio in MP4.

Given that there are now plenty of freely available tools that can generate AAC audio streams I'm surprised that the creators of tools such as, Gordian Knot have not implemented muxing directly to MP4 as well as AVI.

But I guess without the necessary standalone players (oops sorry SAP's) why bother..... It's that, what came first: the chicken or the egg question, again!

So in short: not yet, probably in September/October 2004 with the Kiss DP6xx family of DVD players.

alexnoe, its far from being clear that your statement "How exactly do you play an MP4 on a Kiss player?" had something to do with either the mp4box tool, or with why someone wants to extract a video stream from mp4 to avi (especially when looking at that the last statement you seemed to want refer to was posted 4 days before)

so alexnoe, before you start seeing conspiracies, better formulate your cynic statements in a way they cant be misunderstood next time or even better avoid cynism

Don't pretend to be more stupid than <put someone here you think is the most stupid person in earth>. I replied to the very last line of the very last posting. Just admit that your heart beats at twice its normal frequency when smelling an MP4...or even better avoid cynismSome questions are so stupid that they require some cynism.

Please don't fall out you guys!

Alex what the hell were you doing up at 05:38 (my time) 06:38 (your time)?

Things don't start that early... even in Germany :D

What's wrong with 6:38? Don't say you are sleeping at that time :p

I suppose you finish at around 14:00hrs? Which ofcourse leaves you plenty of hours to read up about the MP4 container :D

"Am I bad or what"?

Well, it depends. 7:30 is the first lesson, each one is 90 mins. E.g. on Tuesdays, I have from 9:15 - 18:45, and after that the MP4 docu is a bad idea. It is not as bad as the AAC docu, but the AVI docu is definitely more easy to read.
Why do I get the impression that some people want me to add MP4 support? :p
