I accidently opened an .ISO with WinRAR and inside were 31 files.
I ripped a backup movie to C: drive as an ISO using DVDDecrypter, but I never knew an ISO was a package of many files. I'm wondering if I now used Nero 6 I could sidestep going through DVD Shrink assuming it's a small movie.
There's 7 .BUPs, 7 .IFOs, and 17 .VOBs. I wonder which do what.
It's just very interesting.

An .iso file is an image of the bits and bytes on a CD or DVD. You'll get the same list of files if you open the DVD in the Windows Explorer.

As for what all those files on a DVD are for ... see this Doom9 Guide:

http://www.doom9.org/dvd-structure.htm

You'll find it, and 13 other guides for the new user in the section marked The Basics.

and yes, assuming that the image is small enough to fit on a DVDR you can sidestep the DVDshrink part!

you can also burn the image with dvddecrypter again, no need to use Nero :)

What happens when u burn only the ifo, bup, and vob's containing the actual movie?

you mean only like

vts_01_0.ifo
vts_01_0.bup
vts_01_1.vob
vts_01_2.vob
...

No this won't work... the least you'll need is those above files, AND

video_ts.ifo
video_ts.bup

This then would be a main movie only DVD which plays the movie automatically once you insert the DVD. Please remember though that you can't just throw out all the other files and then hope that it will work. you'll still have to 'reauthor' (DVDshrink or alike is sufficient)

also you always need the folder structure with the

VIDEO_TS
AUDIO_TS

folders...
