I have taken a movie series from the TV and created the appropriate mpg files. Next I used TMPGenC's DVD Author to create each episodes set of DVD files. Since the three episodes were larger than 4.7 GB I postprocessed the files with DVD Shrink 3.1. At the completion the file set for the three episodes were shrunk enough to fit on a single layered DVD-R media. I next tried to burn the DVD to my DVD-R media an R04 disk. When I opened up ImgTool 1.00.9 it burned the DVD successfully. However, the information from ImgTool indicated a top speed burn rate of 2.4x. I was not possible to over ride this limitation even thought I had an R4-R 4x blank in my Plextor 708A running firmware 1.06.

Any recommendations or suggestions.

Thanks

If you don't have FAT32 partitions, you can backup directly from DVDshrink if you download the latest one (http://dvdshrink.info).
You can directly back up to an ISO. It also has an automated burn function. That way you can see if its IMGTOOL messing you up or if its the discs or the burner.

Thanks for the quick response. I am running my system under Windows XP using NTFS file system. Do you happen to know if what seems like a hard coded burn limit of 2.4X is in fact that as my DVD-R blanks are Ritek G04 1x-4x media.

When i use DVDinfo v2 it indicates that the media are capable of 4x burns.

Thanks once more.

read my the last post in that thread...it's the Ritek media. You'll go nuts trying this or that. Ones that I found burn good at 4X are TDK DVD+R and for DVD-R Fuji (must say 1X-4X on the pack though).

Those TDK DVD+R burn good at 8X as well, although theyre not marked as so on the package.

Additional info:
My DVD writer is a Plextor 708A with firmware 1.06. I have seen guys post notes that they have used 4x media to burn at 8x. I need to use -R media as that is what the home DVD players can read. Does anyone know what needs to be done to increase the burn speed beyond what the media is rated at? Has anyone been able to use a Plextor 708A to accomplish this task? for those who have figured out how to accomplish this task please post software used for the burning and what was done to exceed the media rating.

Thanks,

Plextor 708A doesn't burn -R faster then 4x.
And there is no hacked firmware to bypass driver built-in burning strategies.
