Here's something I'd like to see... We have the half res, half bitrate option for extras, but using that options reduces quality more than I thought it would. So how about if you check this option, you can also change the number of encoding passes for the extras only? So you could do say 4 for the main movie and 6-7 for the extras, to increase the quality of the extras without changing the bitrate.

You can do that for now with ECL Optimizer (http://forum.doom9.org/showthread.php?s=&threadid=75260).

..prior to encoding. Shrink extras as you wish, don't shrink the movie and than make ISO and encode everything together with DVD-RB.

I doubt you'll notice a difference switching from 4 to 6-7 passes...it won't conjur bitrate out of thin air =(

I agree with Matthew. If you read the CCE manual it tells you that the benefit of multiple passes plateaus out at 4-5 passes, making any further passes, for want of a better word, pointless.

I generally go 3 passes on main movie and 4 on the extras and menus that I've reduced the bitrate down considerably. Seems to produce a quality backup. Considering that extras are dropped to 1200kbs (average), you aren't going to get great results no matter what. The movie will turn out great though. Personally, I may watch the extras the first time I view a movie and then rarely if ever again.
