I'm just wondering if someone did any tests with the built in (hardware)ac3 encoder & SB Audigy® 2 ZS PRO.

Example:
Upmix stereo file in nForce & output-->S/PDIF
S/PDIF out to "S/PDIF in" recording option in SB Audigy® 2 ZS PRO

Is it possible to be done?

I have yet to see any soundcard that can record 5.1 audio via digital in.

Have a look here (http://us.creative.com/products/product.asp?category=1&subcategory=14&product=4925&nav=technicalSpecifications)

The Creative software gives you options to record:
"What you hear"
S/PDIF in
CD in
Wave
MIDI
MIC

SomeJoe's post here (http://forum.doom9.org/showthread.php?&postid=338286#post338286) may be helpful to you. However, I'm curious is to what the point of such an operation would be?

I have an Audigy 2 to.

Just install DTS NEO 6 plugin.
Then play whatever you want in creative media source with Neo6 enabled.
Select Record Everything you hear, and viola a DTS file in multi channel wave format. (Microsoft EX to be exact). You can also link the start to the record function.
Then use besweet to split and then encode in Surcode.

Why waste time with AC3:confused:

No joke:)

The only thing that really has to be done is the rear channels are way down in volume. You might have to up them a bit.

This and the ability to play Audio DVD makes you wanna get one;)

@specise_8472

Thanks man,:D
I knew that will work just didn't have the time to test it.
Can you confirm the channel maping in BeSweet, is it correct?
I'll do some testing over the weekend.
