View Full Version : sound synch problem with autogk

While in most occasions I don't have any problems when I use autogk to compress dvds to avi files, two times I faced the following problem. The picture and sound could not get synchronized no matter what settings I have tried. Specifically, it appeared that after compressing the movie when I tried to play the avi the visual started not from the beginning but from a latter part of the movie and as a result the sound (dialogs) was not synchronized with the visual. Is there a solution with this? Is it a problem related with auto gk or with the dvd decrypter not creating the proper files?
Thank you in advance for your valuable opinions.

P.S. I have tried to find if anyone else had the same problem as me in the forums but with that many posts even with the search option it was difficult. So, if I am asking a question that was answered before I am sorry. Please do in this case direct me to the previous forum post.

Hello, and welcome to the Forum.

One common mistake made is to leave DVD Decrypter in its default File mode. For proper usage, DVD Decrypter must be in IFO mode.

Well actually that has been my biggest prob yet, well it still is.
Mostly my avi is 2-3sec behind on the sound.
I have managed to solve that lil prob with the range setting possibility in virtualdub, with most avi's anyway, but I do have a prob with Pirates of the C.
As u might know u can cut frames from the beginning or end of ur avi with the range settings, my current prob is:
Anything upto 299 frames to be cut from the beginning does nothing, not 1 frame cut, but when I add 1 frame making it 300 it cuts 12 secs of my avi, can someone give me pointers 'bout this prob??

ok jggimi your suggestion is well taken. You were right, I had my dvd decrypter set on file mode and not on ifo mode. I have adjusted that and hopefully I will not run into trouble in the future. I really appreciate (and I mean that) your help.
Kind regards

Hi-

can someone give me pointers 'bout this prob??

You can only cut on keyframes, and not just on any frame you want. If you have the maximum I Frame interval set for 300 frames, and there wasn't another I Frame set before that, then that would explain why you're unable to cut before the 300th frame.

If your audio is out of synch, first pay attention to what jggimi said. And if you want to synch the finished .avi, then don't try and do it by cutting frames out, but by adjusting the delay.

That was the first thing I tried, after reading the gk guides. Cutting frames is the fastest way of synchin', at least for me, keyframes setting is 25, i think, but I'll have to check. thanks
I have noticed that the avi adds a n° of void, black, frames in the beginning of the movies, equals the delay between movie and mp3.
How do u delay the audio after converting??

open the avi in virtualdub(mod), go to Streams > Stream List; right click on 'avi audio stream', choose Interleaving from the menu and set the delay in the dialog that pops up!

then do a direct stream copy (make sure it's set for both audio and video) - should only take a couple of minutes!
