The audio encoder in tmpgenc is not very good. most poeple use toolame with it, or encode the audio seperately.

Could it be the Audiostream in these AVI's is AC3 (Dolby Digital) ? I don't know the MainConcept encoder well, but I know that you can expect trouble if you try opening an AVI with an AC3-Stream in TMPGEnc.

Tmpgenc will not accept ac3 as input.

Tmpgenc will not accept ac3 as input.

It will, as written in the German Doom9-Gleitz Board :

Install this AC3-Codec (http://free.pages.at/goldixboxemu1/goldi2001/DivX-Ac3-Codec.rar) and increase the priority of the DirectShow Filter in TMPGEnc until it's at the top.

I've never tried it this way, because I would always prefer to reencode the stream with other tools, but I think it should work.

I did it somehow about two years ago with an older version of TMPGEnc somehow, but I don't remember how.

Tmpgenc for video only. I always use another program for audio. Most people on this board prefer cce, but I'm not that good with it.
