I have a sound file that was encoded with DivX Audio at 20kbps 22050Hz stereo and I want to transform it into a 224kbps 44100Hz stereo MP2. Are there any kind of audio filters that can be used to improve the quality of such a horrible source (similarly to what avisynth filters do to video)?

Nah, that would be the same as re-encoding a 320x240 @ 250kbps DivX video -> DVD specs...

I don't have a choice but to use this audio source. Any improvement would be welcome, no matter how much time it takes.

That audio must have outright artifacts (not to speak of lost/wrong stereo separation). I don't believe there is an easy way for filtering or masking them out. The original data is lost due to quantization errors. Maybe you could alleviate this effect by making some tonal adjustments(?) but it cannot be compared to the relatively easy task of noise-filtering. Probably re-encoding will even make it worse.
Perhaps you should go and search hydrogenaudio.org.

If you want to listen to it, I can make it available for download. After all, it's only a ~8.5Mbyte file (that corresponds to a 61 minute movie :scared: ).
Thanks for the hydrogenaudio.org suggestion, maybe they have some air freshener they can throw me ;).

or use an alias with a domain you or a friend owns that points to your freemail address. i really dont know why they bother putting in that no freemail thing at all.

I'll try one of my other e-mail accounts then. Thanks for the tip.

I believe the 'not registered' error you encountered when using their search engine is because they use boolean search expressions. If you search for DivX Audio you have to enter "DivX AND Audio" etc.
