View Full Version : Getting the perfect aspect ratio...

Hi,
I am trying to encode an anarmorphic film with black bars at the top and bottom. I usually crop these, but I can never get a perfect aspect ratio at the desired resolution without leaving some of the black bars in. Is there anyway I get the correct aspect ratio with no black bars at all?
Thanks

Note that Gknot defaults to Modulo 32 for width, and Modulo 16 for height.

You can reduce these values, but you place the success of your encodings at risk; the codecs have specific modulo requirements, and some video cards have them as well for playback. In addition, compressibilty may be affected due to how macroblocks are managed.

You are better off trimming out the black bars completely, and losing some pixels, then worrying about perfection, since the human brain cannot perceive small imperfections in aspect ratio.
