Appriciate if anyone can help me with this odd problem.

All suddenly, forward is utterly slow (holding down right arrow >, i think it has todo with "keyframe" ?, and the video used to go in somewhat realtime, and now it's slowmotion when forward / rewind using eighter < or >.

Anyone have a clue?

I'm using VirtualDub 1.5.10 (and yes i have tested with several videos - all the same). I have even tested with VirtualDub VCR, which i use daily to cap videos with. Same problem.

Hit the search button of the forums, maybe?

mmm
i read backward instead of forward, sorry...
1- check your codec
2- defrag the hdd you have the video in it
or copy the video on another hdd, and reformat it(faster)
and copy it back...
3- removes all stupid resident program from memory.
4- install last security update to avoid trojan.
5- closes all unneccessary services...

Of course on some case, playbacking the video might be very slow too.
(eg if you have a poor cpu and try to decode 1080i material...)

esby,

i dont mean to be rude but, the above makes no sense.

i have P4 3,2ghz, 1 gig ram, 7200rpm HD, fresh, newinstalled WinXP (5weeks ago), i know the importance of,

- defraged HD.
- as less programs in startup, you better.
- killing all unnessesary background processes.

I can ripp at 720x576 for several hours, with 0 frames lost, so i think i meet the specs of a good, working system ;)

Anyone else have a clue? If anyone know a "simple" way to reset VirtualDub to "defaults". let me know.

@Mouse
i dont mean to be rude but, the above makes no sense.

Considering how you described the problem, that's the only answer i can give. And it does make sense, if you start by checking these,
and end checking what you did not check, and maybe solving the problem.
Of course, if you already did that, that's fine, but don't forget that I am not supposed to know that you did it.

I guess you can try checking if there is no filter loading or processing the video when you are loading it with vdub... (i'm not talking of the vdub ones, of course)

You could try with vdub 1.5.4 but i doubt it will solve your problem.

And another remark:
"I can ripp at 720x576 for several hours, with 0 frames lost, so i think i meet the specs of a good, working system "
I just hope you are talking of tv capture here, cause in another context (like dvdripping)it would make no sense, unless you try to capture the dvd while playbacking it...

And of course, if your system is 'perfect', it should work fine, which is obviously not the case, , try reinstalling virtualdub, cleaning the codecs (mess?) is all i can advise, sorry.

since you cant really (un)install VirtualDub, all you can do is remove the registry values related with virtualdub (not that there are many).

going backwards always goes slow because of keyframes, going forwards should go faster then realtime, certainly with your system. i cant imagine what is wrong, but i dont think it has a direct link with VDub.
