Hello, newbie here :-)

I am trying to convert a avi file to svcd using dvd2svcd 1.2.1b3, but I cann't find the output file - bbMPEG file after the cce program finished. Actually I don't see the bbMPEG program running at all.

I use cce 2.50 (safe mode). BTW, I cann't open the avi file using virtualdub as suggested by moderator dvd2svcd, the error is "Couldn't locate depcompressor for format 'dvsd'(unknown)....."

I used Ulead dvd work shop2 to capture the avi file from camcorder.

I would appreciate any helps. The problem is driving me crazy :-(

Here is the log file from dvd2svcd if it helps:

Hi, and welcome to the forum!

Firstly I must say that is a mighty fine effort for a first post. :)
If that logfile is complete, then clearly the process is not finishing. I suspect if you watched the process, CCE probably shuts down as soon as it opens. This often indicates an avisynth error.

In all fairness I have no experience in encoding this type of material so I'm no expert but let's see if we can track your problem down.

Find the Avisynth_script_file.avs in your movie folder. Open Windows Media Player and select Open from the file menu. Set the file type fo All Files (not just media files as is default) and open the avs file.

If you get a picture, let me know! If you get red text let us know what it says.

In the meantime, I found this discussion (http://www.google.co.uk/search?q=cache:qzGsTbSyP_wJ:forums.3ivx.com/cgi-bin/ikonboard/topic.cgi%3Fforum%3D13%26topic%3D85+dvsd+avi+codec&hl=en) in a forum elsewhere. It seems to be a similar problem, so see if the solution posted there works for you.

Hope this helps
Nick

He needs to install a DV codec. See sticky in DV forum for the free panasonic codec (http://forum.doom9.org/attachment.php?s=&postid=265418). If you can't open in in VDub then it will not work unless you do some manual stuff and change avisource to directshowsource in the script. By installing the vfw DV codec you will not need to do this. Put the Dll in your system directory and doubleclick the reg file.

Hey guys, first I want to say thank you for replying my post. After I installed the panasonic codec, the dvd2svcd problem is gone. Yeah!!! :D

Also I can open the avi file using virtualdub now. (although I still don't know why i need to use virtualdub if dvd2svcd can handle the avi file)

Thanks again to Nick and DDogg.

To Nick:
Yes, that's the complete log file. I opened the avs file in media player, it shown some red text, similiar error as the virtualdub one in my first post. "Couldn't locate depcompressor for format 'dvsd'(unknown)....."

To DDogg:
The panasonic codec I got from your link didn't work, I don't know why (Yes, I did put the reg file into the system). Then I went to dvdrhelp.com and got the codec from there and it works.

I feel a litle bit embarrassed since I should read the sticky posts first then to post questions here. Sorry...

I just looked around on the net and found out virtualdub is another video capture and editing software. Maybe I should give it a try although I already have Ulead DVD Workshop 2.
