Replace Movie within a DVD Menu (keep original motion menu)

I have given myself a little project to do and it would take an age to describe in detail what it is. The example I am giving will seem a little strange and look like I am just trying to do something for the sake of it but it is only to make it easier for people to answer my question.

I want to use an original DVD menu that is a motion menu with a movie that is different from the original DVD movie. The problem is that the motion menu is one which covers the full screen and starts with 15 seconds of motion before settling down to reveal links (words) to 3 different areas and the motion continuing in the background.

I want to link all 3 links (words) to seperate menus of a different DVD (which I have created myself). I have been using DVD-Lab Pro and have managed to find a botched way around doing this. I have cut the motion menu and have the first section as a small movie in DVD-Lab and then it cuts to the second part of the original menu which is a simple motion menu with the 3 links (words) underlined. This way I have been able to put my own links to the underlines and all works pretty well.

The join between the first cut of the menu and the second is a bit dodgy though and although it plays quickly and fairly unnoticeably on my PC DVD player - when I burn it and put it into a standalonthe join is quite obvious.

I have tried using menuedit but am having trouble understanding which guides I am reading refer to exactly what I want to do. I am assuming my first point is to merge the original menu and new movies and new menus into 1 set of dvd vobs etc so that when I make my new links they are present within the structure. Because at the moment when I edit the original menu the new movies are not within the original dvd structure to select.

I hope this makes sense and someone can help me because I am a trial and error man usually but this is taking me so long now that I am on the verge of a nervous breakdown. Thankfully today I managed to clear up an error with the beta 2 version of DVD-Lab Pro where I had been comiling my motion menus and not getting different coloured links so you didnt know which was highlwhen on screen (that one lost me 2 full days of trial and error before I read today that it was a bug on Beta 2 and fixed it within 5 minutes of downloading). Hence this post - I thought I might give the guys and gals in the know a shout before driving myself over the edge.

p.s. I have searched many many forums for an answer and have probably read it somewhere but I am having trouble knowing which is the solution for my problem as they all seem to relate to something else.

What you want do do is replace a cell. This can only be done with the registered version of MenuEdit.

the 3 links will point to a different cell, and those are the cells that need to be replaced.

You can also do it with dvdremake, which is a bit more visual, and let's you edit the pre-post command in the program itself, rather then having to do it seperatly in IfoEdit.

For MenuEdit:
(Mkae sure you have a backup set of files in case you screw up)

- Find out which cells are linked to.
- Create replacement cells for these cells (which you already did).
- Use the replace option.
- Select the vob you want to extract a vob from for the replace.
- Make sure you got "Keep original VOB-iD" checked.
- Alter button layout if needed

You now have a new vob.

Copy the new menu VOB into the original “VIDEO_TS folder.

Now we have to go back to “IfoEdit” again. Open the original ifo that corresponds to the menu VOB. So don’t open the video_ts.ifo.
In “IfoEdit” select the option “Menu Extra’s”.

Select the options “Strip VobID’s”, "Correct Vob-Unit”, and “Correct original IFO files”.
Select a different directory then your original VIDEO_TS to save the new ifo.
De-select “AutoCopy Menu-files to destination”.

Press “OK”.

Select “Check all” and “Correct IFO tables”, and click “Strip It”.

A new ifo and menu VOB will now be generated.

Copy the new ifo’s to the VIDEO_TS directory. Depending on the rip, you’ll need to copy the new menu VOB as well. Atm it seems best to copy this VOB to the VIDEO_TS folder as well by default.

Now open the “video_ts.ifo” in “IfoEdit” and do a “Get VTS Sectors”.

You should now have a fully operational DVD with custom menu.

I had looked at the menuedit website but all the terminology was confusing and there are so many different ways of using a program that at first I thought would only perform 1 function that I couldnt figure out which response actually fit my question.
