Hi
Just discovered custom templates in CCE - so Ive deleted this question.. Id seen it before but it hadnt made sense until now..

So I'll try and ask a better question.. For low bitrate movies - one DVD to one or two SVCDs - which matrix is considered king? Is it still Bach1?

Cheers
Marcus

Yes, for me the Bach1 matrix works best in those cases. But you also might want to try the KVCD notch matrix.

Coincidentally to your post I was doing some 1% sampling tests:

SwatFull_Q28_Mpeg_Standard.mpv - 19,799,456 bytes
SwatFull_Q28_CCE_Standard.mpv - 17,567,244 bytes
SwatFull_Q28_Notch.mpv - 16,990,948 bytes
SwatFull_Q28_Bach (http://forum.doom9.org/attachment.php?s=&postid=484901).mpv - 16,316,956 bytes Substantial 4% reduction over Notch

Cool... Thanks guys..

How about from my movies already on my drive in XviD? Does Bach1 still perform the best in these cases, when you're taking them onto SVCD? Would you need to change your CCE profile much to take it into account, I guess it would be a different dynamic range etc...??

I have no idea. Do the work and post back to let us know :)

Ok I may have to do some more reading first but I will do. I have the Matrix Revolutions which should be a good candidateto play around with.. Might need a couple of weeks or so as mega busy.. :)

DDogg, what were your settings for your comparison testing please?? Maybe could mirror those and that would also give us a further perspective?? Plus any advice over length of clip for the test etc would be appreciated..

:)

Read the dumbness thread in my sig. All above were 1% samples run at Q28 OPV with MIN 300 Max 9000.

To create the sample script, add to the bottom of your working script:

SelectRangeEvery(1200,12)

Do the OPV sample which will only take a few minutes even on a slower machine. If you wish you can derive the bitrate from the sample by using the spreadsheet attached in that post. Note where it says use VDub to get framecount you can instead just get it from CCE when you load the standard working script. You should already know framerate.
