lost sound on downloads

really need help tracking down the answer to this please .After successfully downloading avi's suddenly they start turning up without sound ? i have checked all the normal areas ,volume control ,soundcard connections ,any suggestions where to go now

you're having a codec problem.. but that's all I can say without any more information on the source. And as avih implied, if it's an illegal source (P2P networks, etc.) we can't help you.

I wonder why people with codec problems always post in Audio ENCODING forum? :rolleyes:
