before installing multiple programs i thought i'd ask:

are there any media players that will play videots and vob files on the harddrive just as a dvd would read in a dvd player?

You could use Media Player Classic for playing vobfiles. If you want to play like DVD in DVD player, then the VTS_01_0.ifo file should be opened in MPC.
