View Full Version : CCE VBR Passes doesn't change from 2

The latest version of ReBuilder (and past) doesn't change the number of CCE VBR passes in the program's generated .ECL files. When you first install the app, it defaults to 2. I change it to 3 through the GUI in CCE setup, close the application and re-open it and sure enough the application says it will use 3 passes. Then, I process a DVD and after the first phase is complete, the ecl files only show 2 passes. Is this a bug or am I doing something wrong?

Correct. The first pass is the creation of the .vaf file. Then there are 2 passes when creating the .m2v file. This has been discussed numerous times.

I previously searched the forum for these numerous discussions before posting but didn't find anything relevant. I attempted my due diligence.

Regardless, I just tested with 4 VBR passes, and CCE 2.67.00.23 still only performs 2 passes. The generated .ECL files still show 2 vbr passes.

Not to dimish the previous numerous discussions, but is there another explanation for this "suspect" behaviour that perhaps only I am experiencing?

Is this a trial version of CCE? If it is, then you are only allowed 2 passes due to the trial version limitations. I personally use CCE 2.50 SP and it performs the number of passes set in DVD-RB's configuration.

Edit: if I sounded like a dick earlier, it was a bad morning. sorry.

I think the trial versions allow any number of passes, it's the basic version that only allows 2 passes.
I could, of course, be wrong :D

well, to indirectly answer your question, this version of CCE can perform 3, 4, 5 or more passes when I run it manually without using dvd-rb. What I'm saying is that dvd-rb is generating .ecl files with only 2 passes. I don't believe the encoder is part of the picture here, unless the dvd-rb does an analysis of the encoder's capabilities and generates the .ecl accordingly.

Does that get us any closer to this mystery?

Eh, as far as I can tell from the CCE documentation, I was wrong about the 2 pass limitation anyway.....

That being said then, should I contact jdobbs about this as a potential bug?

I ran prepare just now with 5 passes set on .46, and the resulting ecl shows 4 passes as it should. If there was a bug with this, I think there'd be more than one report about it. Chances are the problem is on your end, good luck finding it :)

Edit: Just in case you didn't, double-check that you set DVD-RB to the right version under "CCE options"

After you change the setting, are you redoing the demux step? the ecl files are written during the prepare step. (at least they did in the last version i checked)
