Thanks that was very helpful. In the CCE Basic guide there is a guide to configuring the settings. I was wondering what special features need to be considered for PAL DVDs. One main difference is the interlacing feature.

Not sure what you mean... are these the original values or is that what you changed it to?

PAL settings? You're not supposed to do any "settings".

mupps: I was perhaps too quick, but with DVD-RB you dont need to set anything special like deinterlacing or progressive scanning. I havent had any playback problems with DVD-RB backups and I only do PAL titles. I change nothing except make CCE do 3 passes and sometimes use half-d1 for extras, and change their bitrates with ECL Optimizer to my liking.

Is there a reason to why you're trying to tweak the AVS files?

btw. I tried the PAL version of pearl harbor and the quality wont be too good cause the original movie is huge and takes up the 8GB disc almost completely with little to remove = you cant really fit that movie on 4.3GB properly.

I only do PAL and have always left DVD-RB on its default settings. I just choose the encoder and the number of passes.
