View Full Version : Is it possible?

So usually I rip a dvd using stream processing and DVD Decrypter so the resulting VOB's only include the video stream and the english 6ch audio stream. Because of this the vob's are alot of times under 4.5 gigs. i was just wondering if there were authoring programs that can take vob input and create the video_ts and audio_ts directories? Because to me it really seems to be a huge waste of time to re encode to a m2v stream then convert back to vob's when creating the directories. I would really like to get rid of that re encoding step as it is time consuming and really unnecessary for me alot of times.

From what I heard, the only program that can import VOBs with 6ch audio is DVD-Lab. You will also need AnyDVD or other program that decrypts CSS on-the-fly when reading from a DVD drive.
By the way, what you refer to as "re encoding" is in fact called de-multiplexing. Re-encoding involves changes in MPEG stream such as compressing in order to decrease the file size.

Well the vob's are already un encrypted because i ripped them with dvd decrypter. And yea i just realized the mistake in my thinking. Vob is just the container kinda like avi. and m2v is the video stream within that container as ac3 is the audio stream. so there must be tools that can just extract those streams from the vob container and then those can be put into any authoring program as is. Would this be a correct assumption?

You can use dvddcrypter to extract the audio and video (streams processing) directly from the dvd. tmpg dvdauthor will also extract a mpg file from vobs (including 5.1 audio), but the streams will not be seperate.

echo you are seriously either not reading the above posts or not totally understanding the situation. But dont worry. i have figured it out for myself i think. I already have the vobs off the dvd and decrypted. what i need to do is extract the m2v and ac3 streams from the vob so i can run these through an authoring program and then burn the output to dvd to watch on dvd player. I figured out how to do this i believe. by using VOBEdit i can demux the vob then using IFOEdit i can author the m2v and ac3 files i get from VOBEdit into a burnable video_ts and audio_ts directory structure.

I did not misunderstand. If you need the output to be de-muxed to go directly to your authoring program why decrypt to a vob? Decrypt directly to m2v and ac3 using streams processing de-mux audio and video. Since you have the dvd, it is always better to go to the original source. I just threw the other info in because that program does a excellent job at that task.

oh im sorry man. i had no idea you could use dvd decrypter to decrypte then demux to a m2v and ac3. thats awesome. that is exactly what i need. your my new best friend. whoo hoo. hey seriously sorry bout that man. thanks for the tip i will try immediately when i get home

No problem. I suspected you had not realized the full potential of dvddecrypter. It is a truely amazing app. I do it all the time. Decrypt and de-mux in one go, I mean.

So i have been thinking about the best way to deal with movies that are just over the 4.5 gb mark when i rip them.. would i use a transcoder to get the vob file size down to what i need it to be then i would have to extract the m2v and ac3 then use an authoring program.. i just ask because i have some dvd's i have already ripped and they dont include menus and i would like to add some simple menus but they arent quite small enough to fit on a dvd-r

Try reJig by Nic. It is a neat little trancoder with great features and is very fast. There is a big thread in the forum about it (How to use, where to get, ect.) I have found it to be indespensible. It would do the trick for what you have now. For movies that have yet to be ripped try DvdShrink. It decrypts and can give you a complete copy, menus included, of a dvd. I haven't tried it yet, but I've been following the thread about Dvd rebuilder. You might want to take a look at it also.

I haven't done any ripping lately, mostly tv caps. Next time I need to rip I will try it.

Meant to add; for multiple episodes on a dvd ReJig is tops IMHO.
