DVD2SVCD version 1.2.2 build 1 (fresh install).

Not included in the History but now, the encoding with Canopus Procoder 1.50 seems to be OK. (I had problems with that 1.5 version).
I was waiting for the possibility to change the audio language in AVI2DVD mode like in the subtitles. :(
Also for audio if I have an NTSC avi with AC3 I expected to have AC3 in the final DVD.
Regarding that I have an question: if I reencode the audio at the same bitrate as the Encoded_audio_1.mp2, changing the extension of the resulting file from ac3 to mp2 and overriding the original Encoded_audio_1.mp2, it's OK if I run Recovering from DVD Authoring?
I made this on an small test and PowerDVD show me that I have mp2 as audio but VirtualDubMod said that is AC3. Changing in IfoEdit the specifications of audio in AC3 PowerDVD show me that I have AC3 (2 channels)

Also if I run Recover after "Conversion done!" I have this error: "Access violation at address 0000004C. Read of address 0000004C". I haven't the .iso image mounted in Daemon Tools. If I turn off D2S and restart again, the Recovering it's OK.

Edit:
Bug Report > Subtitles:
In DVD Author Mode with AVI input and DVD Output wrong colur subtitles (blue border) as you see in the screenshot (http://img8.imageshack.us/my.php?loc=img8&image=DVDAuthorBlueSubs.jpg).
In Scenarist Mode there is no subtitles colour problems.

Bug Report > Chapters:
In Scenarist 2.7 Mode with AVI input and DVD Output: wrong chapters.
Not tried Scenarist 3.0 because of subtitles asyncr warning.
Playing in PowerDVD chapter 6 after chapter 1 and chapter 10 after chapter2.
IfoEdit reported that also I have LayerBreak at chapter 6 and chapter 2.
Screenshot (http://img8.imageshack.us/my.php?loc=img8&image=DVDAuthorChapters.jpg) from DVD Author. Have 9 chapters.
Screenshot (http://img8.imageshack.us/my.php?loc=img8&image=ScenaristChapters.jpg) from Scenarist. Have 10 chapters. (?)
Regarding DVD Author I didn't see yet any problems regarding chapters.
Same settings was used.

The souce was an avi file encoded with XviD and AC3. Resolution 640x480, 23.976 fps, runtime 3 minutes, chapters at 20 seconds.
/Edit

Hi!

Using source audio in avi2xxx mode, not supported in D2S (maybe yet).
It can be done, I posted the trick here (http://forum.doom9.org/showthread.php?s=&threadid=60970). I have never tryed renaming, but I think it will couse problems. But to be sure, give it a try!

Yep I was hoping for the same. Not only for those avi containing AC3, but also for "normal" avis with MP3 audio. Since the new BeSweet ac3enc.dll now works, all the needed programs are there.

Thanks dvd2svcd :)

btw, D2s, thanks for busting your ass the last few months to update the program with so many other things that people wanted like a complete all freeware dvd authoring solution with subs, and a zillion other things. :)

I don't understand what you're asking here.

I think what he's saying is can you manually re-encode the AC3 file to the same bitrate (and therefore filesize) as the mp2 file generated by AVI2DVD. Then delete the real mp2 file and rename the ac3 file to Encoded_audio_1.mp2 to recover from multiplexing.

When I tried this I got the following error in my MPlex log:
INFO: [???] mplex version 2.0.0 (2.2.3 $Date: 2004/01/13 20:45:26 $)
INFO: [???] File C:\Program Files\DVD2SVCD\Movie\Pulldown_Encoded_Video_NTSC.mpv looks like an MPEG Video stream.
**ERROR: [???] File unrecogniseable!
**ERROR: [???] Unrecogniseable file(s)... exiting.

However, it appears user Mtz got usable output  although PowerDVD said he had mp2 audio.

What I would say to this is that if the audio used was a renamed AC3 file it_cannot_possibly be mp2! Regardless of what the player reports it as, it's encoded as AC3 and must be being decoded as such so just go with it!

Another point I would make is that rather than re-encode the source audio to lower bitrate AC3, you could close your video encoder and DVD2SVCD as soon as they start. Then do the same fileswap trick using the source AC3 audio wthout re-encoding.

After this, edit the AudioBitrate0 variable in the file "dvd2svcd project file.d2s" to the bitrate of the of the source file. Then recover from video encoding. It should then encode the video leaving enough room for the source audio, then multiplex it in.

Worth a test!

Cheers

Hi, Nick.
You explained very well what I want to say. English is not my native language.
Regarding that AC3: I think that PowerDVD read the info from the IFO file. As I told, when I open the VOB in VDM it said that I have AC3. And I trust VDM. When I used for demux that vob in Rejig it gave me an AC3 file.
If I want to display in PowerDVD AC3 (Dolby) I can edit the IFO with IfoEdit. The authoring of my little tests was made with Scenarist and it gave me no error. Scenastis accept my renamed AC3 file and made the authoring with no problems. Maybe you can try this.
And I will try your advice. 10x.

There seems to be something changed in the new version regarding aspect ratio's : When I'm converting an 2.35 : 1 AVI (widescreen) to DVD (settings in Frameserver tab : DVD, output type in misc tab : SVCD because of the mdvdauth plugin) the previous version (correctly) added borders when selecting Anamorphic. This resulted in a perfect aspect ratio on a widescreen TV. The new version doesn't add the borders anymore resulting in a vertically stretched picture.

Sorry if this is a dumb question but I have not really followed DVD2DVD too closely and I can't find much info searching the main website.

My question is with this new 1.2.2 version and the need to no longer use Scenarist, which freeware program is used to reauthor instead?

And will this alterate reauthoring program along with DVD2DVD be able to do NTSC with one or more subtitles?

For those who have used both DVD2DVD and the beta DVD-RB - which is easier to use? (assuming you use a program like DVDShrink to make a movie-only with one or more subtitles/languages to use for DVD-RB).

hey great update.. what i really liked the most is not needing sonic scenearist.. a lot of people had some layout problems (including myself)

i just finished indiana jones temple of doom.. dvd2dvd.. turned out great..

does it matter what kind of resize method i use? i noticed the preselected one was a new one that wasnt int he previous version.. "lanczosResize"

My question is with this new 1.2.2 version and the need to no longer use Scenarist, which freeware program is used to reauthor instead? dvdauthor.exe and yes D2D does subs, which was one of the things that required D2S to do a lot of extra work to make happen.

DVD2DVD and DVD-RB are quite different in their intent and each has strengths and weaknesses.

DVD-RB backs up the complete disk structure, in effect it puts 2 disks onto 1 disk. This is difficult to do and still achieve a very HQ encode because compromises must be made to fit everything onto one disk. You should try it and decide for yourself.

DVD2DVD, on the other-hand is "movie only". By only doing the movie, the optimum compression can be realized allowing the best possible quality, but you will lose all the extras and trailers and such.

Which one to use depends on what you personally want to achieve. Some folks are downright militant about keeping all the trailers and stuff. They should use DVD-RB. It is an excellent work, but still in beta. Others feel strongly that movie quality is the ultimate concern and to heck with all the junk on a DVD. For those folks, D2D is a near absolute answer because it allows the highest possible quality that can be obtained. Used with D2SRoBa, it also allows the fastest encode available.

I too had same aspect ratio problem as xp_eric when choosing anamorphic, resulting in a vertically stretched picture.

@adyf
Resizing problems can be solved with using a resizing plug-in, such as FACAR or autofitcd. Can be downloaded from the advanced topics forum.

@Mtz

Subs colour bug reproducible
Chapters bug - no problem with my test clips.
No odd order or layer breaks etc with Scenarist.
But for DVDAuthor you say
In DVD Author Mode with AVI input and DVD Output: wrong chapters
then later
Regarding DVD Author I didn't see yet any problems regarding chapters.

Could you please clarify what the problem (if any) is in DVD Author mode?

Cheers

i just did the royal tenenbaums..

my output image became slightly too big to burn on a dvd-r..

this has beent he first time that default settings made an image too large to burn

my bitrate setting follows:

CD(DVD-R) size = 4464

MAX: 8000 | MIN: 2000 | MAX AVG: 7200

MIN AVG. not checked

just found it interesting.. these were the same settings i used for Indiana jones and the temple of doom and it came out fine..

i also noticed the default MAX size has been changed in this version from 9000 to 8000..

any explanation?

Hi, Nick. Shame on me. I edited my first post. I want to say that Scenarist have this bug. I put that screenshots from IfoEdit to prove what I want to say. Maybe somebody can exactly explain what happen when you play that DVD with the IFO structure made by Scenarist. Also you can look at the times for the cells playing and you can see the order of chapters is wrong. (play chapter 7 after chapter 1, also is an layer break at chapter 6, and play chapter 2 after chapter 10. You can compare that 2 screenshots (please do it) and you can see that the chapters from DVD Author are in right order. Also the times are ok in DVD Author because I choose chapters after 20 seconds and made this chapters every 600 frames. Scenarist made chapters after 606 frames (?) and made that Chapter no. 10 at 00:01:41.00 (?) after Chapter no. 9 which is at 00:01:40.19.
In my country I am moderator on a big forum and I am helping people from my country with problems with D2S (that thread with D2S problems have 11 pages and was started one year ago). Also they reported that Scenarist have this bug with the previous version of D2S (1.2.1 b3) and is not resolved yet. For resolving that problem until the bug is resolved I recommended to make only two chapters for the movie by entering an value (at Fixed Chapters) in seconds which is a little big than the half of the movie. With that Scenarist made only two chapters which are played correctly: chapter 2 after chapter 1.
I hope that I am a little clear now.

Could you elaborate on that?. Same settings? May be the log could also help.

i also noticed the default MAX size has been changed in this version from 9000 to 8000.. Depending on the audio bitrate 9Mbit/s in video could cause some muxing problems. 8 Mbit/s is a safe value, although you can use 9 Mbit/s if only one track is selected. 9 Mbit/s with two ac3 tracks is risky, and using a DTS plus an ac3 is very risky.

i dont have the log anymore.. but it was same settings.. default everything.. the image came out to be 4.39GB

DVD Decrypter lists the file size as
4,720,183,296 bytes
and the blank only
Free Space: 4,707,319,808 bytes

so its just slightly off.. i will try again.. maybe it was a fluke..

and i only/always use 1 track.. so i guess i will stick with 9mbit/s
i aim for the highest video quality.. so even if its only a slight difference.. if its going to give me better quality ill go with it..

I found out, that if I do a "recover" starting with DVD authoring, Scenerist do the job right every time. It dosn't matter how many Chapterpoints you make.:)

I can confirm the LHB solution and it works. Recovering from DVD Authoring put the chapters in right order.
The difference (in my described case) between Scenarist and DVD Author is that Chapter 10 made at the final. DVD Author made only 9, and the first chapter in Scenarist is at 606 frame (in DVD Author at 600 frame).
In the screenshot (http://img8.imageshack.us/my.php?loc=img8&image=ScenaristRecover.png) is the part with chapters after recovering with Scenarist and who wants can compare with the previous screenshots made by me from the same test.

Regarding wrong colours in subtitles, I made 2 screenshots made from SupRemap hopeing that this will help dvd2svcd:
Screenshot (http://img9.imageshack.us/my.php?loc=img9&image=ScenaristGoodCoulours.png) made from SupRemap using IFO made by Scenarist. The subtitle colour is OK.
Screenshot (http://img9.imageshack.us/my.php?loc=img9&image=DVD_AuthorWrongCoulours.png) made from SupRemap using IFO made by DVD Author. The subtitle colour is wrong.
In the next screenshot (http://img9.imageshack.us/my.php?loc=img9&image=DVD_AuthorRepairedCoulours.png) are the colour settings modified by me in Supremap before saving the new IFO File, and the subtile colour is OK.

Also I made that trick with renaming the AC3 file extracted from my avi (wich is 384kbps 48Hz 5.1 channels), fixing with BeSliced, renamed Encoded_audio_1.mp2 and authored with DVD Author and IFOEdit and PowerDVD show me (http://img9.imageshack.us/my.php?loc=img9&image=IfoEditAC3.png) that I have AC3.

When i realized the output (error message) was too big i thought i was because of the new implemented authoring program. because of that i used scenarist and recovered the project. to big again. Now i guess the mistake comes from D2SRoBa??

Thanks

Something doesn't seem quite right here. We will ask tylo to take a look. In the meantime, you can just hand type in a smaller number in D2SRoBa.

EnTaroAdun
9th May 2004, 17:20
What do you mean with hand type? What number? I used the folling settings in D2SRoBa:

Cd-Size: 4350 (--> 1 DVD)
Sample: 1%
Adjust: 1.2%

Sizing Pass: 2.0 <> 0.5
Q over: 40

Transcoding if oversized: on
Clean previous sample files: on

DDogg
9th May 2004, 17:34
How much oversize was it when muxed? Perhaps try 4250. This should not be needed of course. I have not had time to completely look over the logs you posted. Consider it a temporary workaround. Frankly I should not even be commenting yet, but I thought you may be hung up doing the encode and may not know you could manually input any number into D2SRoBa.

Btw, great job on your post. We appreciate you!

Can you please help me ,how to automatically burn dvd files with nero?

thanks

that's not too hard (altough he didn't use the word automatic) :
Open Nero, choose DVD as type, select DVD-Video. Now drag the contents of the created VIDEO_TS folder to the VIDEO_TS folder in the left tree view. Hit the burn button in the toolbar. That's it...

I think this is not exactly automatic....
Have a look here (http://forum.doom9.org/showthread.php?s=&threadid=66617)

This example DOS command line works, but I haven't tried integrating it (Finalize) in DVD2DVD yet:

"C:\Program Files\Ahead\Nero\NeroCmd.exe" --write --real --drivename E --underrun_prot --speed 4 --dvd --dvdvideo_cmpt --create_iso_fs --iso SINBAD "D:\DVD\SINBAD\VIDEO_TS" --recursive

Note that an empty AUDIO_TS is not written (but not needed either).

Thanx Tylo for your quick response.

As I am not a programmer ,can you explain me how can I write this command in DVD2DVD finalize tab?

P.S. As owner of an old 2x DVD burner it would help me a lot...

DDogg

tylo, he restarted and said he has an iso of 4.932.313.088 Bytes.

tylo, regarding the auto burn, you should be able to use the %CDF variable above.

You could also try and use DVDDecrypter in burn mode:
In run line
C:\Program Files\DVD Decrypter\DVDDecrypter.exe
In parameter line
/MODE ISOWRITE /SRC %CDF.iso /DEST f:

Above not tested.

Yes, but it doesn't look like mplex was executed on second restart(dunno why). So, the muxed file was still bad... Scenarist failed again, and created a garbage iso file which was too big. (guessing).

About burning with DVDDecrypter: yes, but the idea was to burn without needing the iso file. I'll write up a small exe that you can put in the finalize tab. Hopefully, the finalize code is executed even if no iso image is created?

DDogg

Hmm, I wonder if image tool burn can be run from a command line?
Yep -

Use following command line options:
-d "d:\your\DVD root dir"
This is the directory where your VIDEO_TS folder is located. If the directory name contains spaces, use quotes (") to encapsulate it.
-v volume_label
The name of your burned DVD...
-s
Shutdown Windows if burning has completed.
-e
Don't eject media after burning.
-o
Don't ask before overwrite rewriteable.
-l
Save log file automatically. Log file saved in same dir as ImgTool.exe.

If you run ImgTool in command line mode without any saved settings, ImgTool will start with following defaults:
use DVD media
use highest possible burn speed
use UDF only mode
eject media after writing
...so if you don't like these settings, do the one time setup as above desribed.

Example:

ImgTool -s -d e:\dvd -v silence_of_the_lambs -o -e

This will burn a DVD labeled SILENCE_OF_THE_LAMBS from the VIDEO_TS files located in e:\dvd, rewriteable media will be overwritten without any interaction, after burn the media will not be ejected, Windows shuts down.

The encoded video has a size of 4.452.078.542 Bytes, so it's definitly to large. Extracted Audio is 379.959.552 Bytes big.

Any idea? Seames like D2SRoBa makes the video each time to big and MPlex just realized the muxed file is oversized.

Hi,

I folled DDogs suggestion and lowered the filesize in D2SRoBa, it works now with 4100 Gigs!! Image size with scenarist is now 4.687.697.920 Bytes. But the new intern DVD-Author Routine still reports an error: "EZeroDivide Floating point division by zero". But after restarting authoring with scenarist all worked out fine. Strange, strange, strange ...

Any ideas??

Early in this thread it was mentioned that the latest version (1.2.2.b1) of DVD2SVCD has a problem with 1:2.35 format. This format is coded as 16:9 and it stretches the image vertically.

I guess a work-around would be to manually change the resizing and add the borders accordingly. This is what can be selected in the frameserving tab ('Edit as part of Video encoding'). However if I try to change the script to resize to 720 x 306 and add borders on top and below of 135 pixels (306 + 135 + 135 = 576) I get problems with TMPGEnc. The error says that the bitrate is too high?

What am I doing wrong?

----------------------------------------------
Edit: Problem solved: The standard script says:
LasczoResize(720,576)

I used to change this into:
LasczoResize(720,439) {anamorphic}
AddBorders(0,68,0,68)

Stupid me: 439 + 68 + 68 = 575 and not 576!

So the correct script change must be:
LasczoResize(720,440)
AddBorders(0,68,0,68)
