xvid and frameserving problems.

Hello all,
encountered a problem frameserving from virtualdub to the mainconcept
standalone MPG encoder. Any flavor of AVI (divx, xvid, cinepak etc,etc) produces an mpg in MC that is SOLID GREEN.

However, this only happens if I have the xvid rc4
package installed.

As soon as xvid is uninstalled from add/remove programs
I can frameserve again. (Except for xvid !)
Any thoughts on this?

I don't have that many other codecs installed, except divx3.11
fast and low motion VFW components only, divx 505, real alternative,
and possibly QT thru an install of itunes.

I'm running XP PRO sp1 (wmp 9 NOT installed)

as a work around you could force VirtualDub to let DivX do the decoding of your XviD-files by checking the extended options box in the opening screen and force the FOURCC to DIVX. you might want to update your DivX version first though (newest one is 5.1.1)

its not really a solution but it should help you further for the moment :)

(uninstalling DivX 3.11 alpha wouldnt hurt either IMO, i dont see any reason for keeping it)

Thanks gentlemen, uninstalled divxc32.dll and divxc32f.dll (divx311a)
(and also divxa32.acm - not sure if I'll be needing that or not)

Uninstalled divx 505 and installed 511 and xvid rc4.
At first glance, it's working better than before.

I expected to see a VIDC entry for div3 and div4 in the
following key:
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows NT\CurrentVersion\Drivers32

But it's not there. How does virtualdub know that divx511 handles
div3 content? I thought the above key made the connection.

well, those keys give a direct link to a codec.dll. if Vdub cant find one, it will just check each codec one by one and see if it accepts the fourcc anyway. Be warned though if you have Panasonic DV installed, that codec will accept any fourcc there is (including things like 'beer' and 'B.S.'), while it obviously only can handle dvsd.

if there was a vidc entry for div3 and 4 linked to the divx.dll you would see DivX 5.1.1 three times in the compression menu of VirtualDub (you can try it if you want ;) )

The problem I think is a conflict of import modules from Mainconcept in color space RGB in which works VirtualDub.
You don't have to uninstal XVID codecs !
The isue is to force Mainconcept to work in Directshow in wich way the conflicts don't apear.
Here's how :
1. Instal avisynth if you haven't already on your P.C. - this wonderfull piece of soft comes with many packs like GordianKnot or DVD2SVCD so you may have it already in your system. Here we use avisynth only for asociations with the extension *.avs so you need only to instal it and not to work with it.
2. Check if the DirectShow import module in Mainconcept have the first priority (1.) . If it haven't disable all the import modules with greater priority (means smaler numbers) .Usualy the import module with greater priority than DirectShow may be only AviImport module .
3. At frameserving save the frameserved file with extension *.avs instead of extension *.vdr like usual.
