Hello,

Got a few audio questions for you all 8)

When i am creating a dixv file to MPEG2 ready for buring to a DVD-R i encode the audio seprate from video, is this the recommend way ?

I encode the video with TMPEG.

I extract the audio from the divx file to .wav format with GoldWave then covert it to AC3 or MP2.

How do i find out what i should encode the .wav to  should i use AC3 or MP2

Also what bitrate should i use

I am using ffmpeggui to encode the audio, is that the recommend program

Cheers

yep
I encode the video with TMPEG.
possible solution - no bad seletion -> CCE, MainConcept, ProCoder are alternatives.
I extract the audio from the divx file to .wav format with GoldWave then covert it to AC3 or MP2.
If there is a AC3 track use them directly -> demux em with virtualdub mod.

I always thought AC3 brings better quality - your choice!
for MP2 it should be about 228~256 kb/s (not 100% sure)
for AC3 (stereo) 192kb/s and more
I am using ffmpeggui to encode the audio, is that the recommend program
why not, but remember "you are on DSPGurus board" ;)

DVD-R with DVD-Video or SVCD spec's ???

IIRC SVCD uses MP2 ~224kbps, but unfortunately no AC3... ;)

Btw, does DVD-Video spec's allow MP2 (MPEG1 Audio Layer v.2) or MPA (MPEG2 Audio Layer) instead...

I believe that mp2 is included in the European DVD-specs but not in the US. Therefore all players in Europe should support mp2 just fine (I know mine does). If you live in the US you just have to try to find about your player. Some support mp2 and some don't.
