Dear jdobbs!

Let me start by stating the obvious, your hard work and dedication has resulted in an excellent piece of software that is greatly appreciated by the community.

Having said that, I do have some suggestions/requests.

Having the ability to choose a SPECIFIC low bitrate for some of
the VTS sets is a real important feature. Some discs have VTS sets
of 3gb of extras. Encoding it even with halfd1/halfbr mode would
make the main movie suffer in quality.

Should be easy enough to implement the ability to choose a bitrate
for the extras so the main movie will get more (auto-calculated like it is now).

Other than that, I know you already know this - but there is a subtitles problem, some streams just won't display on SA players,
if you have a workaround for that until next version, I'd be happy to know what it is.

jdobbs is planning to put in some type of bitrate distribution control, but for now you can use one of the add-on programs to do this.

One is RB-Opt: http://forum.doom9.org/showthread.php?s=&threadid=75202

Another is Ecl Optimiser: http://forum.doom9.org/showthread.php?s=&threadid=75260

Just run the prepare step in 3-click mode, then open your Rebuilder.ECL file in one of these programs.

The second box from the bottom in ECL Optimiser is clever. You set the lowest bitrate for extras, such as 1850, then it automatically allocates the rest to the main movie VTS.

Does it keep the bitrates of the cells proportional to the original disc?

@purpleman

Yes. Actually, DVD-RB does that in the prepare phase then ECL Optimizer just adjusts the BR based on user input accordingly by adjusting each cell up or down within the allowable range.

Edit: Except where the user has specified a minimum BR. Then Some cells may end up higer because they are not able to go below the minimum BR.

Yes, what I meant is - after I set a new average bitrate for the entire VTS set, does it change all the cells of it respectively and proportionally to the original while maintaining my new average?

Yes. Just for kicks, copy your ecl and inf file from a current job to a temp directory. Load these into ECL Optimizer to see how it effects them. Then if you are satisfied with the results, run the same on the "real" files.

So far, I find that it works rather well and only takes a matter of minutes to make adjustments. I also like that you can set the number of passes to each vts. Such as, VTS_01 is the main movie with all of the BR and you've given it 3 passes. Then on the extras which have limited BR, you can set the passes to 5 (or whatever) to obtain the best quality possible. This is found under the CCE Settings button.
