View Full Version : Backking up MTK Firmware EEPROM?

I've just purchased a Neuneo MTK 1389EE based DVD player, arriving this week. I know Neuneo haven't released any updated firmware yet. But when they do..I've seen that quite a few people have killed their DVD players by performing a flash (looks like a higher risk than PC Mobo flashes)

Anyway, I have access to a EEPROM programmer. Is it possible to make a backup of the firmware chip?

That way if the firmware upgrade fails I have the ability to swop over to the working backup chip :p

I don't think the EEPROM programmer connects to a computer :( be great if I could reprogram the chip from a PC with the firmware BIN/HEX file on the computer HD.

Last time I checked the firmware on the Mediatek's are surface mounted chips, which are a bugger to remove. :scared:

Cheers

oh how do you bring up the firmware details on the Neuneo?

Welcome on the forum :)

There is a JTAG interface in planing for the MT1389xx but it's not yet ready because their are no datasheets of the chip released and a group is working on reversee enginering the firmware @ the moment progress is great but don't expect customized firmwares that soon alot of things still need to be researched.
Go into the Setup and try 49540 on your Remote this should Show you the Firmware Menu please post it into the MT1389xx thread if you found out wich firmware it uses :)

No problem- will report the details of the firmware/servo etc.

Killed his Medion 7575 MT1389 GE Standalone (wrong firmware)

I guess you could have done with a backup firmware EEPROM? ;)

Have you got a picture of the MTK 1389EE mainboard? I'll show him that and ask what he can do with it.

Hi All! This is my first posting at the forums. Good to be here!

NeuNeo has shipped some of the MediaTek 1389XX players with other chips rather than the EE. I purchased a player from them a few weeks ago and it came with a MT1389GE chip. I don't know how in the world they can call their player Divx certified if they ship with the 1389GE. Most folks think they have the 1389EE chip. I wouldn't attempt a flash of the unit 'till I took the cover off the chassis to factually read the number on the chip as many of the GE chips have been known to die upon flashing.
