Hi dvd2svcd...

I think your program is great, no question about that.

I've seen the readme.txt file about the changes to the next version and am holding my breath for the new build as I'm having trouble with dvd2avi which hasn't been fixed in the current version.

My question is, when's the new 1 gonna be released. It looks like you've done loads of fixes and improvements to this 1...

thanx

I may get myself in trouble, but barring any major problems, it is expected in the next few days. Stay tuned, it is a great upgrade with a lot of new functionality. It will now include D2SRoBa with the bundle. I can truly say I believe D2S/D with D2SRoBa is the fastest ultra HQ 'movie only' program available.

Something I did run into in the forums was that the dvd2avi dg build has been upgarded to 1.10 with the following changes and fixes...

1. Changed the version string reported in the About box to
1.77.3dg1.1.0.

2. Disabled the "Save AVI" functionality as it doesn't invoke
correct MPEG2 decoding. Use MPEG2DEC3dg and serve into
VirtualDub for transcoding to AVI, or use VFAPIdg.

3. Corrected an uninitialized motion_type in macroblock_modes()
in both DVD2AVIdg and MPEG2DEC3dg.

4. Random navigation performance is greatly improved.
The improvement is gained only for dg-style D2V files. It requires
the new versions of both DVD2AVIdg and MPEG2DEC3dg.

5. Fixed case presentation for CLI file names (now doesn't map
to all upper case).

6. Better auto-loading of multiple VOBs.
a) Now auto-loads more than 0-9 files at a time.
b) Ability to open without auto-loading.

7. Fixed drag-and-drop loading.
a) Always loads ALL dropped files, but the list still needs
to be sorted. :-(
b) Never auto-loads from drag-and-drop.

8. The CLI now supports selection of 1.76 vs. dg-style project files.
Use -DF=0 for 1.76 style; -DF=1 for new style.

9. Changed the trackbar pitch from 500 to 2000. This gives better trackbar
resolution for large files.

10. Fixed the following problem: if the VOB has audio
packets before the first video packet (mostly
happens when processing VOBs demuxed by CellId), audio frames from
the start will be appended. The resulting file was not accepted by
Maestro, for instance.

11. Fixed trackbar navigation so that you can now step backward
across file boundaries.

12. Added a delete-all-files button to the file list dialog.

13. Increased the maximum number of frames per GOP from 50 to 500 (some
nonstandard streams were failing).

14. Improved quirky trackbar positioning and marking.
After loading, the trackbar is now positioned on the first GOP, and
putting the trackbar at the end positions to the last GOP. Still not
perfect but much better.

15. Aspect ratio information is now recorded in the D2V file. This is
added for the dg-style D2V file format only.

16. Fixed the quirk that the Video item of the menu bar stays grayed
after file load until the mouse is placed over it.

17. The "Save BMP" command now does not require the color space to be set
to RGB24 (it now sets it automatically and restores it to YUV if needed),
it was moved to the File menu, and a file dialog now allows specification of
the save file name and location.

18. Added a Play command that starts playing from the current trackbar position
to the end, regardless of the left and right mark positions.

19. Add a link to my web site on the Help menu.

20. Rearranged the menu layout to be more rational and organized and
made the menu enables/disables centralised and easily maintained.

21. The distribution zip includes new, compatible versions of my tools
ParseD2V and FixD2V. ParseD2V now peints out a lot more useful information.

Is this new version gonna be included in the new dvd2dvd build I wonder? Or is the current 1.00 release fine for our humble needs....

fingers crossed that doom9 will knock together a new guide using d2sroba and dvd2dvd for pal dvd's to. I thought that was self explanatory. Please let us know what information you think is needed. Is this new version gonna be included in the new dvd2dvd build I wonder? That is up in the air presently, in fact, d2s may revert back to 1.76 as there seems to be a problem area with the reportage of the delay in AC3. Either way it will work just fine.

Ddog,

I've got one well with dvd2dvd in the past. However when using the add on d2sroba I noticed that bbmpeg runs after d2sroba has finsihed it's job. Also one guide said use Facar instead of bilinear resize. I don't see the point in this I have PAL dvd's. When the output is finished the image has black borders.

This is why I was hoping someone could come up with the definite guide for encoding PAL dvd using d2sroba and dvd2dvd...

Thanx

I think I can help, just make a new entry in the resizing filters and call it NoResize (or whatever).

I normally just put 0=Undot() in it as the first line and use it on all DVDs. I guess you could just put a comment line like "0=# do nothing" (don't use the quotes). We should have put that in. Another thing for the to do list.

Also make sure and select anamorphic in the aspect ratio dropdown in the conversion tab.

Now from what you said, you are authoring and only want elementary streams, correct? If so just make a little test file with a REM statement like "REM Do nothing", call it RunbbMPEG.BAT. Select "no images" and then go to the Multiplexer tab and change the RunbbMPEG.exe to RunbbMPEG.BAT.

The multiplexer command will just drop through and you will end up with just the elementary streams you need to author with.

Hopefully I understood what you were asking for. Let me know if I did not. Happy to help you.

AS for a guide:

1> Make sure d2s/d has been set to dvd2dvd mode and exit.
2> run d2sroba. Set disk size to what you want and pretty much leave all the defaults alone.
3> Hit ok and up comes D2D, select no resize in FS tab, and anamorphic in conversion tab. Select "no images" if you do not want a finished DVD, else select scenarist or DVD author.
4> You know the other stuff I think? If not let me know.

BTW, the one downside of the dvdauthor method is a large need for disk space. I would allocate 25-30 gigs if you want subs, and a final ISO image.
