Back to menu after Movie.

I am trying to create a "Multi" DVD with 2 movies. This is what I have done so far...

Ripped a small section of the movie.
Made a copy of this and renamed files so I have 2 VTS sets.
Used Nerovision to create the Menu.
Ripped the movies (movie only).
Renamed the VTS sets and copied them over the 2 mini VTS sets.
Used IFO Edit to "Get VTS Sectors".

Now everything is working OK but what I want to change is that after any of the movies has finished the DVD stops. What I want it to do is return to the menu.

There is a chance it'll work if you simply add as Post command of each movie PGC a jump to the Title menu (assuming that's where the main menu located):
(CallSS VMGM) Call VMG title-menu [Resume Cell: 1]

You can verify in advance if this method will work by pressing the Title button on the remote while the first movie is playing. If you get to the main menu, it'll be fine.

If this won't work, here's another way of doing the same. Once you created DVD with "mini" titlesets, move VTS_01_0.IFO and VTS_02_0.IFO to another location before copying over the actual movie files. Then open both original and new VTS_01_0.IFO files in IfoEdit and copy manually all the Pre and Post commands for PGC 1 from the original to the new file. This will replicate the original DVD behavior including jumping to the main menu. However, you may run into problems if the original IFO contains a jump to the root menu, and you don't have any menus at all in the new PGC so you won't be able to re-create the menu commands. If this works, repeat the process for VTS_02_0.IFO just for a case.

P.S. VTS stands for Video Title Set.

Unfortunately you have lost me. Upto now I've stuck with the easier methods using DVD Decrytor and DVD Shrink, I've only ever used IFO Edit to "Get VTS sectors" before I discovered shrink.

Any chance of a step by step.

The files are as follows...

VTS_01_1.VOB
VTS_01_2.VOB
VTS_01_3.VOB
VTS_01_4.VOB

VTS_02_1.VOB
VTS_02_2.VOB
VTS_02_3.VOB
VTS_02_4.VOB

VIDEO_TS is the menu files created created by nero.
The rest are the 2 movies ripped by DVD Decrytor as Movie Only.
The "Mini" titlesets have long gone so for now I'm stuck with method one.

ps. I know the above will be too big to fit on the disc. I plan to shrink once I have it working on the hard drive..

Okay, step by step:

1. Start playing first movie. Press Title button on the remote or select Title menu in software player you're using.

2a. If you get the main menu, proceed to the step 3.

2b. If you don't get the menu or unable to select Title menu, there's going to be a lot of work and learning to do, so either post back or give up.

3. Open VTS_01_0.IFO in IfoEdit. In the top panel, double-click on VTS_PGCITI, click on VTS_PGC_1.

4. In the bottom panel, scroll down a until you see either the line "PGC Command Table" or "There is no PGC Command Table".

5a. In case you found "PGC Command Table", look few lines below for the words "1. Post Command ...". In case you only see "1. Pre Command ..." or "1. Cell Command ...", right-click on any of them and select Add Post Command.

5b. In case you found "There is no PGC Command Table", right-click on it and select Add Post Command.

6. Right-click on "1. Post Command ..." and choose Edit Command.

7. From the drop-down box that would appear, select "(CallSS_VMGM) Call VideoManager Menu).

8. In the Menu drop-down box, select Title-Menu. In the Resume Cell, select 1.

9. Click OK and save the file.

10. Repeat steps 3 - 9 for VTS_02_0.IFO.

11. Get VTS Sectors, say Yes to "All Files?.."

12. Try playing the DVD. If it doesn't work as desired, see step 2b.

Thanks Dimmer, This has brought the project on much further.

The only problem I have now is that the 2nd Movie had a VTS_02_0.VOB file. Whilst playing the files from the hard drive it wasn't needed but once I tried to use DVD Shrink it was failing as it couldn't find this file. Once I copied this file over I did another "Get VTS Sectors" and tried again.

Now when it returns to the menu screen you see the menu for about a second then a still of what looks like the first frame of the last movie you played appears over the menu. You can still select the menu buttons. This has only been tried using Power DVD software player so maybe it's something to do with that. I am currently Shrinking and Burning it on the other PC so I will let you know what happens on a standard player.

I would have thought that VTS_02_0.VOB is being referenced in one of the IFO files. Any ideas where this would be and could I remove the reference so DVD Shrink doesn't refuse to work.

EDIT: I have just tried playing the shrunken files from the hard drive and everything seems OK. Now burning the disc...

VTS_xx_0.VOB files contain menus and usually are not produced during a movie-only backup. But in any case, never delete any VOB/IFO/BUP file even if you think you don't need it - this is guaranteed to cause serious problems.

Everything seems fine with the Burnt DVD.

I actually ripped the movies quite a while back and I think i did the 2nd movie with decrytor not shrink.

Going to try another and see if I have it all sorted.
