hello

there's something which i have always been looking for but non one ever knows if it it possible or not.

i use microsoft windows 98 second edition, i have no special hardware for video\audio or software, im a normal user. use irfanview (all the plug-ins, last version), winamp 5, quicktime\real player alternative. i use no codec pack because i don't know which is the best, could anyone tell me?

i can hear windows media audio with winamp, but what about windows media video? i wanted to view it! the problem is that i don't like windows media player! i don't want to install it. i also know that there is a "windows media 9 series codecs" i don't even know what it does.

could anyone tell me if there is anyway to play windows media video in microsoft windows 98 second edition without having to install windows media player?

thanks!

and by the way... what software do you recommend to edit video, change the codecs, i got many in .avi .wmv and i wanted to put them all in the simple .mpg, could anyone tell me what to choose?

thanks!

Hello,

To play WMV without WMP, try jetAudio (http://www.jetaudio.com/products/jetaudio/features_01.html)

Supported:
Windows Media Audio files (WMA)
Windows Media Video Files (ASF, WMV)

Cheers,

thanks!

but is there any codec pack that will let me play windows media video in a software that i already have? winamp 5 or irfanview

many applications say that they can play windows media but the truth is that they need the windows media player installed in order to play the files.

I don't know if Winamp (that's really no good video playe imho.. they should stick to what they do best which is audio) can handle this, but any application that is based on VFW/DirectShow can use these codecs: http://www.microsoft.com/windows/windowsmedia/9series/codecs/vcm.aspx

"windows media video 9 video compression manager" installs only some strange files in a directory... nothing more i think, didn't work to play windows media video files.

there's also "windows media 9 series codecs installer.exe" but it says it requires microsoft windows media player 7 or later to be installed.
