I just got a quick question. Does anyone here have tried to encode a movie with DVD-RB and CCE SP using a Pentium 4 with Hyper Threading?
Just want to make sure everything that was mentionned in Doom9 guide is ok!

I have a P4 extreme edition which uses hyper threading.
No problems encountered whatsoever.
One thing I have noticed is that when using the Big three method i was getting cce speeds of 3.2 or there abouts, however with dvd-rb i only get speeds of ~2.5.
Does anyone know whats up with that.

HT is up with that. In that HT somehow gives DVD-RB more CPU time (20-30%) than it wants to have, while a AMD CPU gives CCE 95-98% :(

I'm going to try increasing the sleep time on DVD-RB in the next version to see how it affects this. The negative affect might be less responsiveness to mouse clicks on the DVD-RB app.

If only we could get a P4 HT person to encode with RB Farm, we could compare notes. I'll bet I have a higher sleep time, yet our code is 99% the same.
I have a P4 2.4c. hyperthreading enabled. both "cpu's" are used 100% during the encoding.

That's ok. The problem is how it is dividing that 100%. Normally CCE gets 98+%, and Rebuilder.exe gets 1-2%. On HT systems Rebuilder.exe seems to be getting 20-25%, leaving only 75+% for CCE to encode with. Since Rebuilder isn't doing anything other than waiting for CCE to finish, it shouldn't need that much CPU time.

thats right, when encoding in cce if i clrt+alt+del and drop DVD-RB to a low priority my CCE takes a massive jump in encoding speed.

Hmm i started a new DVD with RB and i installed a 2.8C 2 days ago i set RB to low and CCE to above normal but RB still takes 29~32 cpu.
I am using 2.50
*edit* i set RB to use 1 cpu and now its using 17% *edit*

Yes, someone else mentioned elsewhere that priority doesn't fix the problem with HT.

I'm running a 3.0c with HT enabled. Task manager reports that cpu usage is 50% max and the '2' cpu's never max out. The sum of the 2 graphs always adds to 50%. I'm running version 0.54, one click with QuEnc. Am I missing something here, a setting I've overlooked perhaps? With Trellis Quant selected, I did a test on Return of the King (PAL and used just the film and main audio track, no menus. I removed them using dvd shrink) It took 13hrs
Any comments?

Quenc doesn't use HT Technology, CCE does.

Ah, right o, didn't find that mentioned anywhere.
I think I'll get my $58 ready then :D
Thanks!
