What is the best DVD backing up software avilable? Ive been using Instant copy on my Pioneer-106D. But i seem to be wasting more discs then im writing to. It keeps crashing and coming back with hardware errors.
Can anyone suggest anything else?

Best? No idea, but I like to use DVDDecrypter to burn my DVDRs.

You can still use Instant Copy to make your backups if you want. Let it process to a pdi file, then use pdi2iso to convert it to an ISO image. You can then use DVDDecrypter to burn the ISO.

Please note that I can't promise this will solve your burning problems. They could very well be hardware failures, and you may have to fix the problem at the source (i.e. fix or replace the bad hardware).

Really? That's odd, I've used it on Windows XP a number of times (tested the trial of IC8 at the beginning of this year). It's especially odd as I didn't think there was a version of Instant Copy for the Mac. Perhaps it's a case of two completely different utilities accidentally named the same thing.

In fact, now that I search the forums, I'm confused too. I'm finding threads that say pdi2iso has been abandoned (long ago) in favor of PDITools and PDIExtract, but on my PC only pdi2iso worked. Sorry if this is confusing - blame the authors of the tools for making it so.

Anyway, you can download pdi2iso from mrbass's site - http://www.mrbass.org/instantcopy/ - pdi2iso is a couple of scrolls down the page. A link for PDITools is there too.

Try Dvdshrink. Before burning to disk always open the ifo with ifo edit and then select "get vts sectors." Since I started doing this my coaster production has dropped to 0.
