Im trying to encode a 25gig file captured from vhs using iuvcr / huffy 720x480 (cant get sound so no audio file ,just testing encoding for now)when I try to use CCE sp 2.6 in three pass mode it stops encoding at about 95% of the first pass . Can anyone advise I what might be happening ...thanks
Try applying the CCE "effect restricted vertical filter" at a low value around 4-8. Does this help?

Thanks Ill try that . Waht does that parameter actually do ?
It's basically an anti-noise filter. I'm suspecting you have a very "complicated" frame at this spot and this causes CCE to freeze. The noise filter should reduce the complexity. When it freezes, do you see some unusually high values for I/P/B Q factors (around 100) in the progress dialog?

Okay Im gonna lose it soon . I set CCe to do a two pass vbr when I went to bed I woke up and its locked up at 1 of 3 passes as it was before ??? It says its 33percent done which I assume means it made it thru 1 pass and locked this is the same place it locked up before on a different movies but captured the same way . It cant be a complex frame because its the exact same spot as before (with a different movie) Any suggestions??

In my last post I stated that CCE was locking up . Actually its not locking up it just stalls . It sat all night and was still at 33percent (end of first pass) in the morning . When I did ctrl alt del it showed as still running . I thought it would have said "not responding " this may be an important clue

I've heard that this was a bug and sometimes crops up. Try it again and see if it works now. The bug is something about avisynth waiting on cce and cce waiting on avisynth so everything simply sits there.

All I can say that it looks like a bug either in huffy or CCE. Try the latest version of CCE if possible.

I saw a thread about huffy 2.2 . Im using 2.1 because it was recommended to stay with that for now . Ill try 2.2 and see if that makes a difference .

I had this kind of bug, it was because I deactivated virtual memory (I have 1gig) it wouldn't go more than 4 passes (stalled there and was still "running") with cce 2.67.
