hi echooff

ive been looking at the doom guides for weeks
i downloaded a lot of software and none of them seem to do what i want

the closest i got was a program that converted the file to avi - but 2 minutes of the film was about 4 gig - no joke

AVI to DVD using AVI2SVCD (http://www.doom9.org/mpg/dvd2svcd-avi.htm)

DivX is already .avi.

well i need to decode it as my dvd player doesnt have divx
so i need to decode it and then convert it into a format that will play on my dvd player

I think that what manono meant was that you don't have to convert your divx to avi as an intermediary step, becuase divx is avi (one of many different kinds).

If you have a codec on your PC that allows you to play the divx, you can probably use AVI2SVCD (AKA DVD2SVCD) to turn it into a DVD, hence manono's recommendation to use the AVI-To-DVD guide.

No. You have to place it in a format(re-encode) that is dvd compatible - mpg. For a video to be placed on a working dvd it must be mpg and the audio must be either ac3, wav or, in pal land, mp2(althought it works on most players in ntsc land.) The program you were pointed to will do the trick. Before you begin, I suggest you return to the guides section and do a lot more reading on formats and terms. Believe me, you will spare yourself tons of time and frustration if you spend a little time now doing that.
