I have just run a divx file through tmpgenc 2.5 and the resulting file is 7.3 gig.
When i got to run it through tmpg dvd author i set up the chapters and found half of them were just of the credits. It seems its just kept on running.

How can i chop all that off so i can run it through author and burn it to a dvd? What is it i have done wrong?

If long credits is a problem, you can cut them out in a second in TMPGEnc DVD Author. On the same screen where you add chapters, find the last frame you want to keep and click Set as end frame.

Tmpgenc 2.5 - it is not very informative. For example 2.59 has a bug to produce oversized files, 2.58 and 2.510 haven't such a bug. If you make the video and audio together in tmpgenc and your audio is mp3 or ogg you will have problems as tmpg doesn't handle them correctly.
Than say me what you have done (cos, sorry, but from your post it is not clear what you have done in details) to see where you did it wrong ;) .
