Hi,
Here's the story. I had an Athlon 1333/64MB Asus Geforce 3 Deluxe Original/Gametheatre XP/MSI K266pro M-Board/2x 20GB Hardisks @5200rpm I think one is 7200rpm/512DDR RAM/ Asus 522452 CDRW/ pioneer DVD rom/ ext. 120GB ICE CUBE USB 2/ Ultra DMA 133 IDE
I always had good smooth playback of MPEG-4 files. Until recently, the movies play smooth for around 3 minutes then all of the sudden the video frame freezes for half a second or more and then catches up to the audio in a quick burst. Sorta CPU or RAM lag.
Ok, so I didn't bother myself too much about it since I was going to do an upgrade in a week anywhere. So I got my upgrade.
GA-K8N PRO M-BOARD, Athlon 64 3200+, 512MB DDR400 PC3200, 160GB Matrox SATA 150 HDD, new case
from the old system I kept :
I kept the Asus Geforce 3 Deluxe Original, Pioneer DVD rom, Asus 522452 CDRW and I also kept the 39pin IDE cable for the CDRW and DVD-ROM connected to IDE2. I also kept one Western Digital 20GB conected to IDE1 via a seperate new IDE cable. With my new SATA hardisk connected SAT0 conenction on the mainboard.
Ok so I switch on my brand new computer, triple check the plugs, ide cables etc. everything's in firmly etc.
I Installed Gordianknot codec pack with ffdshow and everything else, rip pack/ divx 5.1.1/xvid all newest versions of the software./MaCfee professional viruscan/emule o.42e/
I play my different xvid/divx/DVD's files and what do I get ! Again the exact same CPU hick-ups ! Only this time it's not half a second but more like 1/5th of a second. Still noticeble thought.
So I change the process priority of Windows media player and wammo it plays perfectly at above high priority setting. But the bloody thing is I have to set it over again every time I start a new session.
Also what kind of athlon 64 3200 @ 2.2Ghz can't play mpeg4/dvd video at normal priority smoothly !!! ???? I am upset it's a new system and I thought it would never have problems with video playback of any kind.
What is really causing this ? Any Idea ?
