It's possible to convert a "cd rom audio cable" output into a "3.5mm stereo mini phone plug" input ?

Analog output could be send to a phone socket/plug....as by normal coloring codes. (wires):)

Yes but why?, sticking standard plugs onto other bits of equipment is not a bright idea, sooner or later someone is gunna plug it into what the plug is meant for, can your equipment you want to change the plug on survive 110volts? (What the phone system where I am runs on ring).

I don't think he means phone plug as in telephone, you can get adaptors or roll your on. However if you do want to connect in to the phone line for recording or playback, then you need to make a gizmo.

Take a old modem board, it has a transformer that isolates the pkone line from the computer circuit. Connect the shield to the common ground on the board or cold winding of the transformer. Next the center conductor is connect with a .1 600 Volt mylar capacitor to the high side of the isolation transformer of the computer side of that transformer.

It take a little trial an error to get great results. The older the modem the better because you have things spread out over a wider area.
