Hello,

I'm trying Ulead DVD Workshop 2 and I've read in the web that there's a "do not convert compliant MPEG files" box you can check or unchek.

After half an hour searching I couldn't find it. The only disc templates I found are the high, good, or standard quality, and all of them recompress the video.

I would appreciate help

I have used ulead MF 2 before, but I don't have it on this machine so I can't verify this, but I think there should be two buttons at the bottom left hand side of the screen. You click on the right one and either a box pops up with the video settings, or a menu pops up where you select something like "settings" or "preferences". Once you get that video settings box, it should give the MPEG video and audio settings, and have the checkbox you are looking for. Sorry if this isn't very accurate, I've done it before, but can't remember the exact steps. I just remember those two buttons at the bottom were sort of discrete looking, so you may not have noticed them.

Hello,

I think you mean Ulead MovieFactory. It's not the same.

Thank you anyway,

Oh yes, sorry about that. I should have read your post more closely.

There isn't a direct option not to recompress however it is possible not to provided the mpeg file is compliant to the standard your outputting to - DVD, VCD etc. In Edit mode there is a "Convert to Disc Template" check box. Make sure this is unchecked and the file shouldn't be recompressed provided as previously mentioned the file is compliant. Using this method it is possible to import a mpeg file with 5.1 Dolby sound and use it for a DVD. The file however has to be already muxed, not seperate audio and video files. When it comes to output DVD Workshop 2 may still say it is converting the file in the progress bar but if the file is compliant it should take very little time as it isn't actually recompressing the file.

Let us know if you figure it out. I just played around with it and couldn't find anything. The help files say there should be 3 tabs video/audio/subtitles at the left, all I had was short clips, I have no idea here!
.
Make it easy and go to the help files and do a search for "compliant" to see what I'm talking about.

What V_ICE wrote is the answer I was looking for.

Sorry, but I read about this other chek box option in several threads of a forum I don't belong to. Now I understand they were talking about a previous Workshop version.

It was also confusing for me the explanation in a Jerry Jones tutorial that Ulead offers in its web. He says the only way not to recompress a compliant mpeg file is to create a customized disc template that match the video and audio properties of the source. That works but I think for my purposes it's much easier to let the "Convert to Disc Template" box unchecked.

Thank you everybody.

Then why do the help files say diff? video/audio/subtitles tab?
.
Now I know why many people avoid ulead, it never makes any sense, and they never update crap!
