"dvsd" problems with cce 2.5

Hi

I captured a file from my Canon MV400i with Pinacle Studio 8 to my HD. The I opened the file with Adobe Premiere 6.5.
Then I saved the file as -> Export -> Microsoft DV AVI
Now ich opened FitCD and created a film.avs
I can open this file with my mediaplayer and VirtualDub.

I can load the file into CCE, but suddenly when I press the "encode" Button, I get this messsage: "Could't find
appopriale video codec for dvsd"

I Installed:
- Tsunami Pack 3.9.9
- Canopus DV Filter/Codec
- FourCC
- Avic 100

None of this things could help me encode my avi to a mpg file.
I cannot convert the file into another dv format.

Can somene help me?

Welcome to the forum.

Did you open your AVI file via DirectShowSource in AviSynth? If yes, a DirectShow filter is used (most probably Microsoft's). If no, which means you used AviSource, a VfW codec has to be installed, preferrably one that can decode to YUY2 colorspace (Canopus, MainConcept, ...).

Note: For the Canopus codec make sure it is set to use "dvsd" as fourCC, as it normally uses its own fourCC. Or use a software to change the fourCC to "cdvc".

I guess you either have to install a DV codec or switch to DirectShowSource.

I can never get cce to work with avisource and using dvsd. I change the dvsd to cdvc and it will accept avisource videos.

The reason for this is because the only DV VFW codec you have installed is Canopus which looks for "cdvc" not "dvsd".

If you want to use AviSource without using the Canopus utility to change to "cdvc", download and install the Main Concept, Panasonic, or Sony DV codec. That way you can use AVISource with "dvsd".

The free Canopus DV Codec is playback only (V 1.0). Along with the Codec there is a DV Converter Tool downloadable, that can transform DV files with the FOURCC 'dvsd' to the canopus DV format with the FOURCC 'cdvc'. The free version of the Canopus DV codec also suffers from the Chroma Upsampling Bug and acording to the canopus support forums there will be no updated version of the free codec.

A newer version of the Canopus DV codec is included within Procoder 2 or Procoder express that should not suffer from the Chroma Upsampling Bug and that can be used for 'dvsd' and 'cdvc'.

Arround the net I think there is also a hacked version of the newer canopus codec available that says V 2.8 but I don't know if it is a fake or not.

You can either convert the DV file into a canopus DV file or you install another DV codec that uses 'dvsd' or you could perhaps open it with a avisynth script 'directshowsource("yourvideo.avi",seek=true)'.

In my personal opinion the Canpous DV codec works especially well with analog material that has been captured with a DV converter since it does not emphasize noise.
