Disabling CD drives

I am running Windows XP SP1. I have a 2 user log on set up. One of these user accounts is mine, which an administrator. The other accounts is for my family, this is a limited user account.
Is there a way to make it that when the family account logs on there is no CD drives present in "My Computer"
And when i log onto my my accouunt the drives are present.

N.B. I have used Hardware profiles to make drives absent at start up, but the drives are absent on all log ons

Well, you could disable the H/W from device manager as default and enable them again whenever you need. ( As drivers are already installed, this won't take time..)

I can do that but what i would love to happen is that when i log on i have all the CD drives available and when they log on, no drives are available.:devil:

Btw, you could look for the same in windows group edit templates..


Type in run "gpedit.msc"

There are several administrative options available and sometimes the required one may be found.

Edit: There is a tool called Tweak UI PowerToy..this can hide the drives of your choice.....but cannot disable..

i've no idea if it works for CD drives, and i'm not going to test it either because i'm on 2k :D no reason why not :)
