View Full Version : need a good noise filter

I have been using the noise filters that come with Gordian Knot for making my DVDs (please don't ask me why)
They aren't very good for my purposes...they are slow, blocky, etc...

does anyone have any suggestions on how to filter DVD sources speedily and efficiently?

Thanks

The noise filters that come with GKnot are quite good (Undot, FluxSmooth, Convolution3d, ...). I'm not sure what your purposes are that makes them so bad. Perhaps you are not using them optimally for your purposes?

well, I did some research, here's what i found:

When I used Tomsmocomb
I found the picture from the DVD -> Mpeg2 much smoother, clearer
than with
convolution 3D & Fluxsmooth together on a few different settings...

it was also much faster (.9 compared to the old .4)

only thing was, with TV rips (some cartoons) I needed convolution 3D

TomsMoComp for denoising...

Some stuff I like:

- Deen (for anime and toon stuff)

- MipSmooth (for harder denoising / low bitrates)

- VagueDenoiser (for most movies but only @ low values)

hehe. i can't settle on a noise filter.

i scripted my own replacement for vaguedenoiser (faster, but doesn't work the same way, blurs chroma slightly) which i like a lot, for a hack.

also, for compressibility, kassandro's "removedirt" is a great option - using it alone will barely change the look of the movie, but will give you anything up to 30% extra compressibility (warning: figure pulled out of my nethers... i haven't tested it properly but have got this figure in an extreme case).

Used VagueDenoiser to denoise luma slightly (0.25) n' chroma 4x higher (1.00) !!!

Really, I cant see a difference to a regular (both 0.25) denoising... :D

But it helps to gain some compressibility that mf's great script eats !!!
