im using dif4u 1.4.7.0 and numenu4u and im trying to backup the movie back to the future. the 1st dvd of the new boxset.
(i tried searching for it, if anyone else had problems but it finds too many threads that are not relevent)
when it goes to nm4u it just sits there with 100% processor after it demuxes vts_01
dif4u says opening numenu4u!
then nothing happens... i have followed the guide here perfectly... i even double checked everythign and there is alot to check in all the different programs!
http://www.doom9.org/index.html?/mpg/scenaid.htm
i hope someone can help.... if im supposed to make a new thread ill do that...
so i skiped the menu just because i was tired of messing with it. followed the guide exactly and im getting errors with power dvd saying unknown file format. and dvdshrink (just to check it for compatiblity) says there is invalid data in vts01_01_1.vob
i look at each of the vobs in powerdvd and they play fine. im about to say screw it and use dvdshrink but tis like 50% compression so im sure it will look horrible!

hmmm... the only time i have ever had numenu freeze up on me, was during 'fieldorder.exe' so all i did was open up task manager and 'killed' it and everything ran perfectly ...so you could at least try opening up the task manager while it is running and see what process is being called - at the very least it will help zuel with his debugging.
as for the second issue, i would strongly suggest you open up the re-encoded final dvd folder in Ifoedit (open one of the .iso files) and use the 'dvd play' function to see if ifoedit has any problems with it, and is it does can you tell us where the error occurs and what the error is.
my guess is its a problem with the ifoupdate step ...

your problem with it hanging is more then likely fieldorder.exe hanging..
if you open your task list you'll probably find fieldorder.exe eating most your cpu time.
You can safely kill that process and numenu will continue as normal... This is a known bug with fieldorder

also do i need to add
VafFix=1
to the ecl.ini ? im using the newest version of eclcce and cce
btw do not worry about the problem with ifoupdate step ... i
think i was tired and messed that up
:o
but im about to finish the first bt2f and do the second. and see if it hangs if not ill put the first back in and just do the menu part to figure it out why it is messing up. i already encoded the whole movie on the first one and do not want to redo that but i will if i the quality would benefit from a small menu... i sure it would a little but not enough to redo the whole thing. :)
thanks for the quick help.

would it be bad to select all the options in ifoupdate?
i mean using the guides options and then there is this "How to make the big3 readable by DVD Shrink" (http://forum.doom9.org/showthread.php?s=&threadid=74712) thread about what options that they use and they work....
only one im not going to use on this first try is the
auto correct ifo/bup length.
thanks again for the help

backed up
F:\dvdripping\BACK_TO_THE_FUTURE\backed up ifos\VTS_04_0_IFO.BAK
options selected

Yes..... for example, majority of the time you don't want to copy over the color palette as RA/Scenarist does not generate the correct/original palette info.
Also, generally speaking you don't want to update Audio/Sub information either... the original would be correct
I WOULD use the auto correct option too... that could be a problem (not sure if it cause this one or not)
Sounds to me like your missing a file... either a menu file didn't get copied over OR a VTS file didn't get copied.
you DID move the .vob's over correct? and you DID do a "Get Sectors" correct?
what happened when you played it in ifoedit?

okay now there was one error in dvdshrink and im sure im going to need to start a new thread about this... its weird had it happen to the menu the first time might be why it did not work... a vob was corrupted and would not play in powerdvd or dvdshrink... rerip it off the dvd and its fine... it was one of the small ones that was not processed at all...
maybe thats why the menu did not work the first time...
gets green screen and corrupted noise blocks wish i would have saved a screenshot before i replaced both of them now that i think about it!
updated powerdvd and now it plays... now i just need to figure out the numenu4u lockup/freeze

Ok.. I know what your problem is
are you ripping directly from DVD or from an image? I'm betting your doing it directly from DVD (which is not advised)
anyway... if you are, make sure you have selected in DoItFast4U under "Post Processing" the option "Create VIDEO_TS From Encrypted DVD...." not the first option...
If you don't DoItFast4U is going to just copy the files over which will NOT remove the encryption giving you a corrupt file... you need to do the later option which will use DVDDecrypter to copy those files stripping off the encryption

I'd recommend that you not it directly from the dvd... can cause problems not to mention KILLS your reader..
instead, use DVDDecrypter and rip to a .ISO then use daemon tools (or alchohal 120 or fantomcd) and mount the .iso... rip from that
Takes a little more diskspace but will save you a number of headaches later on
