View Full Version : Does RP's M4A format require QuickTime to be installed?

I encoded some files on one PC in M4A and tried to play on a different PC. RP on the other PC complained about QT not being installed. Is this a catch to using M4A in RP? Should it play on its own in RP without QT?

m4a files are simply files having aac audio in the mp4 container
m4p files are basically the same but including apples copy protection (as used in itunes)
afaik realplayer should be able to play m4a files on its own, for m4p ones it needs quicktime installed and of course you need to have the right to play the file
apart from that you can play m4a/mp4 files in every dshow player (bsplayer, media player classic, wmp9 aso..) when installing 3ivx
of course there are also many other players supporting it (as m4a/mp4 files are 100% complaint to the mpeg-4 standard)
read the mp4 faq i linked to in my sig for more info

It's M4A files, and it should play without QT, but it isn't. Hmmm, I'll make sure everything is the way it should be and try again. Thank you for the information!
