What's the best way to remove an .ac3 audio stream within a .vob and replace with another .ac3 encoded at a lower bitrate without changing video structure?

Dunno if its the best way, but when I have needed to do this in the past, I have just used TMPGEnc DVD Author to make a new DVD, and just changed the sound location from the original VOB to the new AC3 file. Works just fine.

If the bitrate changes, it will in no way work without re-authoring: The structure inside the VOB would change, so the corresponding IFO would not fit to the VOB anymore. Therefore, a new VOB and a new IFO must be created if the content changes, and during the re-authoring, it must again be checked against possible VBV buffer overflows or similar reasons for a failing authoring...
