It often causes the dvd player to just stop playing the movie completely.
The media I'm using is Memorex 4x DVD-R.
I have a Plextor 708A burner, burning at 4x. I also updated the firmware to the latest one available at the Plextor website.
I have re-ripped the movie from the original twice already. Both times they error. Is it the media? If media does not sound like a factor, what could be causing this problem?

Media is always the first suspect. Why don't you try different brand and test your projects on RW.

Cheap media is prone to this sort of thing (skipping at end of disc).
What's the manufacturer ID? - you can check using DVD Decryper in ISO write mode.
Assuming it's a cheap media issue you may get better results by burning at a slower speed.
My solution is simple...don't buy cheap media :)

It can also happen with cheap media and burning to the edge of the disc. Try reducing by 200-300MB or so.
As already stated try burning slower. I don't go faster than 2x or 2.4x

Yes, I would agree with the above comments regarding burn speed and media quality.
* Try burning more slowly
* Try burning WITHOUT BurnProof (lossless linking is not great for player compatibility)
* Try not to completely fill your disk with data, since most recordable DVDs are less reliable towards the outer regions of the disk.
* Do not exceed 7mbps - recordable DVD is less able to cope with high data rates, owing to it's lower reflectivity than pressed media (thanks to TF for that nugget).
* Ensure your MPEG does not have excessive VBR spikes.
* Try an alternative brand of Media (e.g. Verbatim or TDK).
