i use dvd2svcd to do movie onlys (dvd-r) of some of the longer movies.. and i notice that after it extracts the ac3 it "encodes" the audio.. it only takes like 5 seconds so i cant be doing much.. any1 know what its doing?

It is using 'besweet' to compensate for the time delay between the audio and the video. This does not happen for every source, because, the delay is often 0.
