Hi all,

Can anyone give me some help ?

I want to re-author my wedding-dvd... So

I have a DVD with the video in VOB format:

AUDIO_TS
VIDEO_TS

video_ts.bup
video_ts.ifo
video_ts.vob
vts_01_0.bup
vts_01_0.ifo
vts_01_0.vob
vts_01_1.vob
vts_01_2.vob
vts_01_3.vob

The video format is MPEG-2 720x576 PAL 625/50 4:3 25 fps format with mpeg-1 2ch 48kbps 20bps audio according to IFOEDIT

I would like to reauthor this video and create a DVD with menu and my movie in 16:9 format so i can see it widescreen on my plasmascreen..

I already tried this: demux video stream from the main VTS_01_0.VOB file with resulting m2v and mpa files.. Using TMPGENC to change the format from 4:3 to 16:9 but when I clip the frame in TMPGENC i see these stripes in my video..

like on this picture: http://www.zeegers.be/stripes.JPG

can anyone tell me how to do this or what i do wrong ?

thanx !!

Well, you can easily change the aspect ratio, but how do you expect the video to look? It will either be stretched horizontally, or you'll have to cut off top and bottom in order to fill the screen. In the first case, you just have to change the aspect ratio flag. In the second case, you'll need to re-encode the video zooming in vertically with top and bottom cropped, in other words with a loss of quality. If you have a zoom function on your DVD player, try to set it to 1.5x to see how it's would look.

Thanx for your answer..

if i donīt want any quality loss can i let some program change the aspect ratio but leave the black rectangles on the screen ? I would rather have the black curtains than an unsharp image !

thanx!

right now iīm de-interlacing my vob files and converting to AVI in order to convert them later to a changed aspect ratio file that can be handled by DVD-lab or maybe maestro...
I like dvd-lab a LOT but i keep getting unsharp menus.. a little bit amateuristic feeling.. but the program is so great!!

Aspect ratio is simply a flag within .m2v files. Picture size always remains the same (780x567 for PAL). You don't need to convert to AVI, re-encode, or do anything complicated to change it. You can use ReStream for example (see download page) to create a copy of the .m2v with a different aspect ratio flag.

If you're talking about keeping black bars on the side of the picture, I'm pretty sure your plasma should be able to do this on its own.
